The Thursday night before, Ethan (ecstacey92), our friend Ari, and I are getting Kuma's Corner and then going to Music Box to see Clue in 35mm and I'm VERY excited.
Pizza - Pequod’s Burgers - Au Cheval American (but a bit higher end) - Girl & The Goat Mexican - Frontera Grill/Xoco/Topolobompo/Bar Sótano (all owned by the same guy, Rick Bayless) German - The Berghoff Breakfast - Lou Mitchell’s There are tons of Italian restaurants here too and some restaurants opened by cooking show winners, namely Monteverde, Rose Mary, and Siena Tavern. Also, I guess Portillos but I’m in the minority that finds it overrated haha.
The first year I went to Riot Fest, in 2012, my friends and I were looking for a place to grab food after the festival on Sunday night. We were walking around and it looked like a lot of spots were closed or just weren't to our liking. We saw a place that was open, walked in, and the place was virtually empty. We ordered the burger and it was straight-up one of the top three burgers I have ever had in my life up until that point. Now, I think it's still probably top five... But man, we must have been there just before the hype was starting to build. Because we tried going there the next time we went and the wait was obnoxiously long. Haha. Still an incredible burger, though!
I’ve only been able to go once and I went literally right when they were opening for dinner, but yeah it was hands down the best burger I have ever had. Since then I’ve never been able to go because it’s too busy, but one day…
Yeah he's in my top 5 favorite drummers, hope he heals quick! And makes sense, I'm not a huge RFTC guy but Atom seems like the draw at least for me lol
One of the things I enjoy about most of my Riot trips has been the day or two before (and after) the festival where I just fuck around in Chicago. Most years I've been able to work in a lunch visit to Au Coeval. It's a bit of a commitment because of the wait, getting there early, etc. But it's totally worth it. It was really great in 2018 when my buddy got there early/got us a table, so I didn't even need to wait at all! Which made the burger taste even better. If you're ever in Boston, I have recs for two burger places of similar quality! Oh. I didn't realize you hated rock n' roll... Hah! JK. RFTC are incredible live and with the heft Atom brings behind the kit, he actually brings a lot to the band. So it'll suck if he's not there... But I'd suggest seeing them if you haven't before and the schedule works out!
If in the mood for a weekend brunch, I make a yearly pilgrimage to Fork. One of the best chicken ‘n waffles I’ve had. Once the schedule drops I figure out which day I can show up the latest to and go on that day since it’s on the other side of the city
God poor Atom. That’s terrifying. I’m glad he’s ok! I don’t think RFTC will drop though. Chances are, they still might have Mario on call
Josh Freese and Derek Grant have both entered the chat. (No connection to the band that I'm aware of, but I could see either of them stepping in. They have a history of doing that sort of thing with punk and/or punk-adjacent bands. Haha. You're right, though. I bet Mario's gonna be on with 'em.)
They’d be the biggest headliner they’ve ever had. I feel like there’s a chance it could be them, but I’d still bet on it being someone smaller.
I’d expect someone a little more “punk” than Real Friends, but I know RF likes to play small shows when they can.
Yeah, for the Pop-Punk Pizza Party line-up, it's always a safe bet to think more "Fest" than "Warped Tour."
Surprised Elliott is not playing Riot, or even Chicago, specially considering these might be their only shows for their reunion. Hope they get added to the AOF aftershow
Same! If nothing else, thanks the clever work of the person quoted below... We know there's some sort of announcement that's planned for this week! Looks like they're taking that week/weekend off. Haha. But that would 100% get me to buy a ticket to the AOF aftershow! If nothing else, I have my fingers crossed they add a short east coast run in 2023, though I'm not expecting it...
Joe Trohman is doing a book signing in Naperville the Wednesday night before Riot Fest: In-Person Event with Joe Trohman/None of This Rocks
Meh...Kali Masi plays shows here all the time and Telethon comes here often too and I believe Ramona played the pizza party in very recent years. I don't know Timeshares though so maybe they are a big deal.
