Incredibly bummed after holding onto this ticket for like three years, but I need to save some money so I’m selling a 3-day pass for $200. DM me if you’re interested. Edit: Also if anyone knows how to sell/transfer tickets for this lemme know. Doesn’t seem like you can with Eventbrite?
this thursday lineup is killer, but outside of Hellogoodbye i dont know anyone on friday, including the headliners
Every Avenue, The Higher, and Anarbor all came up in that same scene a little after Hellogoodbye's time, I'd recommend all three - Anarbor especially.
another little kernel of info on the schedule from the Riotfest person on reddit. lends credence to my guess of descendents and alk3 being on the same stage and mcr starting as soon as trio finishes
Well, that means the schedule is coming soon! Bodes well for my Friday too. Though, I do wonder if that means Alkaline Trio/Descendents might be on Radical or Rise instead of on one one the main stages. It's the "hustle" part that's making me say that. Also makes me wonder if MCR will play unopposed. Odd that they didn't comment on Misfits and the Menzingers, because just looking at the poster will tell you that it shouldn't be a problem. Haha.
yea if there is any overlap with MCR itll be 15 mins or less....maaaaybe something on rebel that's complete opposite for the non-mcr fans but its hard to find a band on Friday that doesnt have overlapping fans. they only mentioned friday because the original poster says 'but i probbaly wont be able to see them all" so riot wanted to get the international traveler hyped. they are so much more pleasant and engaging on reddit, and the sarcasm is soft and playful, but twitter is a whole other story, haha
Now my fear of a My Chem v. Descendents conflict just turned into a The Wonder Years v. Descendents conflict which is even worse lmao
Unpopular opinion around here, but Portugal the Man is the obvious choice to oppose them if they go that route. The crossover is there, but it's miniscule by comparison to the other choices. MCR dabbles in that pop world a bit, but I would imagine there's plenty of PtM fans who don't care (and vice-versa). Or at the very least... Folks who would pick one over the other easily. I'd also imagine the band themselves might want to catch the Descendents and/or Alkaline Trio. Hah.
mcr vs PtM is my worst case scenario, they are 1 and 2 on my list, but if it has to happen i have to go MCR just because they skipped my city on tour and dont know if they will keep touring beyond this outing, so this is my only chance, and PtM are road dogs.... but ill be kicking myself for skipping the PtM / Alt-J tour a few months ago
As long as I can see MCR, Trio, TWY and Jeff I can handle all the other conflicts for Friday. Looking at the lineup again and there are only about 5 bands I wouldn't watch that day lol
My Friday must-sees are My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio, Descendents, Rocket from the Crypt, Jeff Rosenstock, Lagwagon, Marky Ramone, Sincere Engineer, and Cliffdiver. I feel like RFTC or Jeff Rosenstock are gonna have to get cut. The Wonder Years, Lucky Boys Confusion, Cloud Nothings, CarolesDaughter, Bob Vylan, and Destroy Boys would all be really cool to see too.
I know this is a typo but it would be so cool if RF actually got him (not that it would ever happen). I try to catch him with my dad every couple years and his band still rules.
Alexisonfire has the day before open in the touring schedule, it wouldn't shock me if they did one on Friday.
Yeah, it seems weird for a band to have an open weekend day, I'd be shocked if they didn't have something that day.
I've heard he's amazing live! Definitely not my thing, but he would be a legendary booking. I doubt it would ever happen too, but I could see them constructing a pretty amazing stage around it. Bob Dylan / Phoebe Bridgers / Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls / Billy Bragg / Sincere Engineer Could also see Bright Eyes, Against Me!, Homeless Gospel Choir, or Julien Baker being a fit too. Like you said, probably not going to happen. But they could put together something really special.
I’d see RFTC over Jeff, if I were you. Jeff will tour again soon, pretty likely. But who knows when RFTC will play again
If it comes to it, I'm sure that's what I'll wind up doing. Maybe just splitting the sets. I actually haven't seen Jeff live in like, 3-4 years which is the only reason it's even a consideration. Hah. And I've seen RFTC 3-4 times in the past. Always amazing, but kinda has diminishing returns the older they get. So we'll see!
TWY v. Alkaline Trio in 2019 was sad. I think they also conflicted with someone I wanted to see in 2016 as well, but I can't remember who. I've already accepted they'll conflict with someone I love haha
TWY vs Thursday in 2016 was probably my most brutal conflict. Get Up Kids vs Dashboard in 2014 is up there too.
My favorite part about Alkaline Trio in 2018 was watching bats fly overhead as the sun was setting during their set. It kinda felt strangely perfect. Hah. That alone was worth it! I also remember running across the field at one point, during what I considered to be a "lull" in the Trio's set, to catch a song or two by the Wonder Years, and it was right as they played "Melrose Diner" which was sick. For a festival that usually does a decent job of not pitting two incredibly similar artists up against one another... Riot has had some bizarre blips over the years. And that Get Up Kids/Dashboard conflict in 2014 still haunts me to this day. Not that there's any timeline in which I would ever pick Dashboard over TGUK but... It just seemed so odd given how obvious the overlap is in fanbases. Rancid/Descendents in 2016 felt like another one that was really oddly obvious as far as conflicts go.
thats awesome! im always spying for any piece of info i can get my hands on, haha. i hope you have an easy travel experience and are able to enjoy the fest to its fullest, lets have a drink in September!
