They both definitely dropped. Jawbox too. But I don't know if that was between the initial line-up and the second wave or what. I was talking more like, bands that were on the "final" line-up who dropped between the announcement and the festival itself. I kinda count those early ones as "we're just not ready to play shows/tour yet."
I recall The Clockworks silently dropped, and didn’t mention anything until the day they were supposed to play
I feel like it was the latter for AAR. Like they were on the line up, and then the next wave/update/whatever, they were just gone.
Yeah, that's definitely another one! That was lumped in with the Pixies cancellation. Yeah, them and Jawbox specifically. I remember them being part of the initial announcement in 2020. And then when the rest of it came in 2021 they were missing from the poster.
Email that just came out today about volunteer days and job opps has a blurb about the line-up at the bottom: "Stay tuned for single day schedule announcements and after shows!" Doesn't mean it's coming in a matter of days, but given that the RF Redditor said the schedule was likely coming earlier than usual this year? I'm guessing mid-August. Probably ~2 weeks or so.
I feel like if they do anything next year it’s lolla (they might be a lock for lolla already anyways) I think next year they do all the festivals like they where gonna do in 2020
Our boy Jarvis said that Pulp is gonna be playing shows in 2023- gonna be interesting to see which fest they end up at (if any). I could see them headlining Pitchfork, or potentially being a click below headlining for Lolla or Riot. If I were a betting man I'd probably put my money on the fork.
Midtown Music Festival just got cancelled. I know riot might be at capacity now as far as acts, but if they can squeeze it, some very big acts might be looking to schedule something else for that weekend now
I could see them locking in some of these acts as possible replacements if others wind up cancelling. But I highly doubt they'll just add 'em on. There really isn't enough room for more acts in the schedule. And there's minimal crossover in terms of the line-up, anyway. FOB and Turnstile, for sure. Maybe 2 Chainz or 100 Gecs. Everything else feels like a stretch (Phoebe, Mitski) or it would be a bad look for Riot to book them again (ADTR).
I wonder which placement would Turnstile have in the lineup if they return to Riot. Probably closing a side stage or the slot before the headliner
Posterwise I could see them between Placebo and Descendents on Friday, Bad Religion and Yungblud on Saturday, or Sleater-Kinney and Jimmy Eat World on Sunday. I would see them second to last on whatever stage they're on unless the band canceling were somebody like Descendents or Bad Religion (in which case, they'd be the closer). Stage designation and set times for Riot are pretty different compared to other festivals. Haha. Like, they are inarguably more popular than Yellowcard or Bauhaus at the moment - but there's no way they play after them given that the other two are exclusive and/or rare performances. That sorta thing.
