All of these adds are pretty underwhelming for me. Taking Back Sunday is always fun but I've never actually managed to catch more than 1-2 songs at Riot because there's always something else happening. This might be the year, though!
Breaking it down, I'm guessing the main stage is My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday, Anberlin, and... I really don't know. The stage opposite that is pretty likely to be PTM, Bleachers, Placebo, etc. My biggest gripe about that? The possibility of Descendents and Alkaline Trio conflicting.
I could see TBS -> Alk3 -> MCR on the main stage, but somehow I can't get over this idea that Bleachers hasn't shrunk in draw enough to be playing a different stage. Either way, I would guess TBS partially conflicts with 2 out of Bleachers, Portugal. the Man, and Placebo.
Luckily I get to see Descendents the sunday before so I'm willing to skip their Riot set but yeah I think that makes sense :/
I’m over here doing mental gymnastics trying to figure out how I’m seeing The Wonder Years, Foxy Shazam, Bleachers, and still getting to the pit for MCR.
I feel AK3 will headline a punk stage along with Descendents, Lagwagon, Marky Ramone. And TBS probs will be direct support of MCR. Also a AK3 on a stage with Wonder Years, Hot Mulligan and Boston Manor sounds possible
I get why you think this, especially cus their last album didn't do all that well, but last time Bleachers was here (October) was their biggest Chicago headlining show. They sold out the Aragon. (Wouldn't be surprised if a lot was given away through radio or something though so idk)
That being said I don't think they'll be mainstage, I think they'll play before Portugal. the Man who will close one of the other stages. I think portugal will be one of the other headliners during MCR. No way they put TBS against MCR either so I don't think they'll be closing a stage this year.
Alkaline Trio headlining a "punk" stage would make sense too. But I kinda feel like Descendents are strong enough to carry that one and I just don't see Alkaline Trio playing an overlapping set against MCR. That said: MCR may be a rare "headliner gets to play unopposed" kinda deals.
I'd say either AK3 or TBS is direct support for My Chem, but the other plays the stage that alternates with main stage
Y'know, thinking on it? That would be kinda sick. And could work. I just assumed Descendents would close out one of the second stages. Alkaline Trio/Descendents on one with My Chemical Romance/Taking Back Sunday on another. EDIT: Worth noting too, that MCR are huge fans of Placebo. So there's a chance they wind up on the same stage - or the stage opposite. Either way, I think they will be placed a decent spacing away from MCR on the schedule unless they are on the same stage or the one next to it.
The whole *Devo leading into Slipknot* thing from last year has me worried about the non-zero chance that Portugal The Man leads into MCR on the main stage Lmao
PTM and Bleachers does make perfect sense! And it makes sense for Riot to put them on the soccer field while the punk bands do either of the back-to-back stages across from the main.
i was able to rearrange my schedule placement for friday and sat, but plugging in 4 new bands on an already full line up on sunday is just cramming stuff in. i did this off the cuff and not polished, may play around more later
Fuck it. Here's my best guess/attempt at stage designations for Friday Riot: My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Placebo, Anberlin, LS Dune Roots: Alkaline Trio, Descendents, Lagwagon, Marky Ramone, Bob Vylan Rise: Portugal the Man, Bleachers, Jeff Rosenstock, Foxy Shazam, Pale Waves, Carolesdaughter, Sitting On Stacy Radicals: The Wonder Years, Lucky Boys Confusion, Hot Mulligan, Boston Manor, Cliffdiver, Sincere Engineer Rebel: Rocket from the Crypt, Cloud Nothings, Destroy Boys, Aviva, Holy Fawn, Algiers, Wargasm (UK) Could see RFTC and/or Cloud Nothings wapping with bands on Roots or Rise.
I've seen TBS so many times lol But, in saying that, Big Freedia was one of my favorite performances last year, so I hope Coolio fills in that gap.
