I think the latter group probably goes to Pantera cover band shows just to get wasted, & would still love to get hammered drunk & show off their confederate flag tats at a Pantera show regardless of who's in the band.
Yeah, I kinda get the vibe that this is the metal version of the Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and Misfits (sans Danzig) thing where... There's some people who still go out to see those bands because they are either (a) completely unaware of the "situation," or (b) just don't care but that these people are in the minority. The band will still draw, but nowhere near what they might otherwise. And obviously it's on a bigger scale here. But still... Anyway. Don't think they'll do Riot. They'll probably do a short run of dates in the northeast/southwest then do some Wimmer Fests as "exclusives" to fill-in the gaps.
cant wait to see pantera without dimebag or vinnie in the same way I.. cant wait to see U2 without bono or the edge cant wait to see rolling stones with out Mick or keith cant wait to see Rage with out Zach or Tom
I kind of dug Prophets of Rage though.. Chris Cornell covering RATM songs with Audioslave was kind of weird and not so great, and I loved Cornell's voice but it didn't work.. I think they basically stopped doing covers by the time the second album came out
Or I think they just stuck to Soundgarden covers. Although, I recall seeing a video many years ago of the band, sans Chris doing an instrumental of Bulls On Parade
Possibly, this was over 20 years ago and I'm just going off the top of my head.. I'm sure setlist fm has more accurate info.. I will say this Chris singing Killing in the Name Of did not really work lol
Prophets of Rage was another example I was going to plug-in, but for me it's not the same as what those other acts are doing. Mostly because they picked a different name and toured on it. They weren't pulling the wool over anybody's eyes... And I think that's kinda why that whole thing never really took off, TBH. No name recognition. Having seen them twice in two disparate settings (800-capacity club and Riot Fest) though? Prophets of Rage were REALLY, REALLY good live. But it's also a great case study in Band X without (insert band member here) is just going to be inherently less popular. Which is, I think, what we'll see with Pantera. Even with the name recognition.
I’ve never seen Rage live (tho I’m hoping to change that next year) but I saw POR in 2016 and they were super solid live. I hope Chuck D and B-Real collab again, because they worked pretty well together
Riot has disabled resells on Tixel I guess to boost ticket sales on their site.. I'm still assuming when it gets closer, it won't be hard to find GA under $200
Not an update or anything but... Really cool seeing them give some of the smaller bands on the bill a shine like this! I think it would be kinda cool if they did a "spotlight" kinda thing like the Fest does where they say "Hey! If you like (insert band people know), then you'll probably like these other bands playing the festival! Check 'em out!"
I feel like “in the coming weeks” has an entirely different meaning to the riot fest staff than it does for the rest of humanity
If we actually do have more bands to get announced, a separate surprise announcement or after shows.. one of those three has to be this week right?? I do think Riot had planned on releasing something earlier than now but there might be various factors delaying that.. hopefully for the positive
We have plenty of time for the aftershows. Those aren't usually until early to mid August. Last year was a fluke. For them to add more bands or do any sort of wild changes to the festival? Yeah, I think we're definitely getting down to the wire. Especially if they're banking on said-additions getting people to travel...
When that is used in front of film reels, does it always count up like that, or does it normally count down? TBS incoming
Someone on Twitter pointed that the sound at the end is the breathing at the beginning of Makedamnsure, and now I kind of hear it
