Yep! Champs is playing Detroit and Cincinnati instead of Waterparks, but it's slated for the last two weeks of September.
It would affect it much about as much as 21 Pilots playing Riot weekend would. Which is to say... Maybe a little bit? Panic! has effectively been a pop-centric band for 10+ years. There's definitely still overlap with the Riot audience, and "emo" or whatever in general, but it's so minuscule once you leave places like ChorusFM. I know a bunch of people IRL who are super into Panic! and only one of them even knows what Riot Fest is.
Momma & Waveform are playing at Sleeping Village Friday night, which is a real shame because MCR is the only headliner I know my friends will insist on staying to the end for.
Blackbear is probably its own show. Honestly insane though that Panic, Blackbear, and Riot Fest, three events that have direct crossover are all the same night in the same city.
My partner gave me the green light to fly in for Riot Fest a day/night early if there's any pre-shows happening, if I just want to alleviate stress about flying in the AM, etc. Might take her up on that! It would make the whole thing a bit more expensive, but fuck it. We don't have any other trips booked for the year...
if looking for things to do the night before, the facebook solo riotfest group always takes over The Native thursday night, ive been 2 or 3 times, not sure if going this year, but they are usually good people.
Story of the year just announced a actual tour with no Chicago stop or anywhere close that is in September and ends the week before riot
Right on! TBH, though, if I fly in early I will probably either find a show to go to or just get a nice dinner somewhere. I tend to enjoy being a bit antisocial the day or two before spending the weekend surrounded by the masses. Haha. That tour skips a lot of places, though, and seems more like a quick run built around festivals they've been booked on more than anything else. Doesn't mean they can't just fly out/drive up for Riot Fest the week after but... I don't think this makes it any more/less likely that they might be added. (That said, I'll keep an ear out for any news/hints of dates TBA when I listen to the band's podcast later this week!)
IF there are more to come... FIDLAR is back on the menu! (though it looks like Elvis is not back with them on guitar)
If there is an announcement this week does anyone think there will be an announcement for the announcement?
Actually, I forget what they tend to do for after shows. But I feel like they usually announce those at least 1-2 days ahead of the on-sale date. If they're adding more bands, switching something up/adding something to the festival or whatever... I'd assume that we get an announcement for the announcement / a teaser.
Yeah, After Shows'll either be on a Wednesday/Thursday with a Friday On-Sale or Friday with a Monday On-Sale. No need to drag it out all week since there aren't pre-sales. Also just noticed the Friday single day GA's jumped to the next tier (109) as opposed to Sat/Sun (99). Edit: just checked last year's articles and it looks like they went on sale at the same time they were announced, but both batches were on Thursdays

That's a wide range, hah! A few more years for reference are below. Basically, it's a bit early for after shows. Last year was a fluke. But still. They said they had more news and there were signs of more bands... 2019: August 8th 2018: September 7th 2017: August 15th 2016: August 16th 2015: August 13th Aftershows are pretty obviously coming at some point. But all this talk has me questioning whether or not more bands are actually coming. I know there's been signs pointing toward it but... They've said shit like that before and it didn't happen. Second wave was usually out at this point and when they said they had big news coming? Well, it's now been "months" not "weeks." Hah.
Kinda surprised the Reddit conversation this year is pretty dead. I keep expecting all this wild (read: hilariously unrealistic) speculation to pop-up based around the supposed second wave, Riot Mike's statements about "things to come," etc. But nothing that I can see. Was kinda hoping for somebody to be like: "What if Riot Fest is going to partner with Kevin Lyman and create a touring festival called Warped Riot and it's like, all the old Warped Tour bands like Escape the Fate and Taking Back Sunday, and some legit OG old school punk rock like the Wonder Years and Avril Lavigne, but with Denzel Curry and Fall Out Boy headlining every night. Oh, and it should be free."
