Adding Apocalypse Hoboken or the Copyrights would make me so happy! And they should just book Kinane to do a 30-minute set on Rebel. Or have him MC it. That would be weird and awesome. But I kinda doubt OWTH ever play Riot again. Ryan has been pretty vocal about his loathing of playing at bigger festivals (including the Fest) the last few years. On top of that, I think they've already ruled out full band shows for the rest of the year with maybe like, one exception.
100% agreed. Really psyched to hear the new Copyrights songs live cause that new record rules. And I'm being an especially big baby over the cancellation because they'd played another show in Chicago two days before the cancelled one, but I didn't go because... I had tickets to the one that got cut. Slice of the ol' dick pie for sure. And as for OWTH- the show that got cancelled was said exception. Ah well.
That sucks hard, my dude! Chicago is one of the few cities outside of Boston that gets these random one-off shows that make me super jealous. And this was one of them! Haha. I definitely had a lot of envy over that line-up. Mostly because of Kinane and the Copyrights. Hopefully the Copyrights come back sometime soon! I know comics hate doing that sort of thing, but I seriously think having 15-20 minute comedy sets between bands on the Rebel Stage would be a fun touch. And Kinane could definitely do topical/festival-referencing material. I remember seeing him at Fest years ago and he had this stupid but very funny one-liner about a "vegan Hot Water Music tribute band named Pleatherface."
Yeah it was def a bummer, but I get it. Initially Apocalypse cancelled because apparently someone had covid, but the venue reached out and said the rest of the bands were still playing. Then one by one in the following hours, the other bands announced they were dropping too via their socials. I'm moving out of Chicago at the end of the Summer to a farm in absolute nowheresville Illinois, so I'm trying to hit every show I can before I go. Luckily, the Copyrights are from Southern IL so even though they don't really tour anymore, I'm sure I'll be able to catch them at some point. And as for Kinane- I can't emphasize enough how much I want him on stage making fun of all the fellow grey-bearded potbelly punks shimmying around and hunching over trying to make their backs stop hurting between sets.
Riot Fest landed at #28 in Billboard's Top 50 festivals of 2022 list. I'm not sure if I'm impressed that Riot Fest was that high, or disappointed that they aren't higher compared to others that are significantly less unique, more expensive, etc.
"...Today, the event has added a circus atmosphere with lucha libre, carnival rides and sideshow performers who push the boundaries of good taste"... That clown in the dunk tank gonna haunt riot, hahaha
I was one of the Porta Potty Staff Pick winners! I’ll be hosting a chorus.fm meetup inside my potty, Tender Shart in a Blender
Now that’s a supergroup! Interesting to see Tim from Thursday considering how he really hasn’t been involved much with Thursday’s reunion and whatnot too. But that’s an EP I can’t wait for!
Came to say the same thing about Tim. Has Tucker been drumming with Thursday recently? I saw them in January but I only remember Geoff and Steve. Tucker very well could've been there and I just didn't remember. Either way, v v v stoked for them.
Tucker is still (and has been) active with them. Tim has barely played with them since they reunited, and Tom was mysteriously missing from the last tour. At least as far as I know, this is the case
Not an official aftershow but The Homeless Gospel Choir/Short Fictions are playing at Subterranean on Friday night
Riot Fest E-mail this morning says SINGLE DAY PRICE TIER INCREASE COMING SOON! GET TICKETS WHILE THEY'RE STILL AVAILABLE Have to imagine they'll release some sort of new details along with the price increase? Between that and aftershows, I think we'll get something next week
