If they move, it has nothing to do with Riot Mike's big announcement he was referencing from his interview on Q101.. I've almost got it figured out
Yeah, I doubt it will be this year, I feel like they're too far into it. But next year? Is Grant Park in play? That doesn't feel very Riot Fest-y. Maybe Union? Dear god just please keep it in city limits.
I feel Union Park would be too small. There was a festival in May held in Grant Park that used like half of the park in comparison to Lollapalooza, maybe they can pull something like that?
I really doubt they'd move to Grant Park during football season... just sounds like a huge mess if the Bears have a home game the same weekend IMO They could move it to Hawthorne Race Course similar to Jazz Fest being at the Fairgrounds in New Orleans (which can hold over 100,000 people per day).. but I'm not from Chicago and don't know the ease of getting there or area restrictions etc, it's right outside the city limits though
Out of curiosity, I went back and read the 2015 move announcement. I'd be so interested in seeing that list, especially the other potential options within city limits. This has been said a ton of times in here, but any viable option in the city (besides Grant Park) means they're significantly reducing the size of the fest. I wouldn't mind Grant Park at all (ease of access via Metra would be so nice), but that it's too close to Lolla and during football season make me almost sure it won't end up there.
Fully agreed that the festival won't be moving this year. They are way too far into the whole process. Could potentially see an announcement for next year, though... Especially if it was something that would allow them to get more creative with the grounds. What's interesting is that much of the chatter in these articles isn't focused on any one festival. It's more that there's now 3+ per year. Which you really can't blame people for. Especially if the other two festivals are hitting in May/June or mid-summer. That gums up the bulk of the summer. Being later in the year, Riot would presumably pose less of an issue in this regard. But it's definitely still part of it.
Yeah to be clear I was talking about the move being next year, it’s too late in the game to move it this year
They are doing it again this year. The time slots start at Friday so there probably won't be anything on Thursday like last year.
This was the COOLEST (and most stressful) thing me and my wife ever did! Glad they're doing timeslots ahead of time this year. Last year it was just show up and hope you get one, haha.
Felt so lucky our slot/the people we watched after us get married ended up not conflicting with Joyce Manor last year
Has Meat Wave ever played this festival? I’m seeing them at a free street fest here for the first time ever and they sound like the perfect local band to play Riot.
I know "in the coming weeks" is a vague way of saying it but... It's been a month and a half, hah! What do we think? Will we be getting an update on something this week, ahead of the holiday weekend? Or will it be after (which would lead credence to more bands/some of those bands having upcoming Chicago shows)?
That would be great! But at this point, there's so many openers of bands touring around the festival that aren't playing... I'm not convinced that it will be any or all of these bands. But this tour is obviously the one I hope gets added most, hah! EDIT: Tour dates are up. The poster notes Riot Fest but doesn't list Big Wig or Grumpster as being on that date. Too, unfortunately the tour has a Canadian date on 9/17 (day after Lagwagon plays Riot). Which kinda makes an after show much less likely. Doesn't rule out the openers getting added, though!
been waiting to book a hotel in hopes prices will drop and it seems very unlikely at this point lol. gonna have to bite the bullet soon I guess
TBH, I've only ever experienced hotel prices increasing as time goes on. If you're at all hesitant, I would suggest booking one that you can cancel for free up until a certain date and just keep an eye on things... That way, you can lock in a decent(ish) rate and take away some of the risk, but you can still keep your options open.
I was actually thinking about doing a few that are pay later and free cancellation just to have something!
That's what my partner and I usually do. Book something decent just to have it on lock, then look for something better. And if we find it? Book it, then cancel the initial one.
The Apocalypse Hoboken / Kyle Kinane / Copyrights / Off With Their Heads show that was supposed to take place last weekend got cancelled last minute- so if that whole thing could get added to Riot I'd really appreciate it. Thanks gang.
