WOOPS! I just checked my Excel spreadsheet & they're already there & are my only "skip" for Saturday already haha
I am saving for my wedding next year, so I'm pretty broke for Riot this year. Went ahead and signed up for the Street Team so I can HOPEFULLY attend this year. Also gives me a good excuse to ride my bike more this summer.
Crazy, super unlikely idea here: what if the big announcement that’s been teased for a while, the unusually high price increase, and the reason they’re able to add more bands despite already having enough for a full fest already are all linked? what if the plan is to essentially “double” the size of the fest by using the north end of Douglas Park as well? I know there’s less usable space over there so it would be more like a 60%-40% or 70%-30%.
I don’t think there’s any way they expand to the north part of the park. They’d have to close Ogden, and that’s way too big of a street to shut down for the weekend.
I don't think the big announcement would be to destroy even more of the park each year, plus as Troy said Ogden is a major street and closing it would not be feasible. Also, I don't know the entire park *super* well but there are two high schools on the north end of the park. I don't think they could extend the festival because school is (I presume) in session during Riot Fest.
Lol alright, big announcement is a Thursday Riot Fest preview party hosted by John Stamos. Last year was curated by Morrissey, this year it's Uncle Jesse. Everyone who held on for MCR since 2020 or bought before the lineup drop gets in, limited $69.95 tickets for anyone else on sale Friday. Someone plays Kokomo.
Sparta is touring with The Get Up Kids for their Four Minute Mile tour. Hope they get added to the bill!
I'm hoping they will do this at RF too, they are already doing it at Furnace Fest. They have a show in Chicago tomorrow so hopefully they will announce it later this month.
That's probably one of the reasons they're holding off some of the "big" announcements. Hopefully they're not waiting for the TBS show to roll through town (though that probably is true)
They mentioned "in the coming weeks" in the initial email which would make the announcement over a month away so I'm gonna safely assume it will be before the end of June.. TBS can always just get added last minute
When was the last time a band was added to the festival at the last-minute beyond being a replacement? (I can't think of one, though it may have happened...) There may also be the case that TBS is just a "back-up" in the event that a bigger act drops out.
Sorry, very broad use of the word "last minute" I mean they could get added after the July 8 show, but I think the rest of the lineup will be before then. Also they weren't supposed to be on in 2018, so it's possible they skip the fest this year.
*For all we know* they weren’t supposed to be on it in 2018. I maintain my theory they would have done an aftershow or secret set or something and RTJ & Weezer were the only true replacements added.
Sure, but I don't count an after show as being on the lineup. ie I wouldn't say the Aquabats played Riot in 2019 even though they played the Thursday pre-party
TBS skipped in 2016 (they had an aftershow that year tho), so its possible they skip again. But a Riot without TBS and Andrew WK feels weird.
2012 too.. Andrew WK & GWAR are the only two bands to have played every year since Riot Chicago went outdoors
Well, I wouldnt say they skip that year as the first time they got booked was in 2013, but I get your point
I doubt thrice and Thursday get added since both played last year. Plus they seem to be staying away from repeats from last year anyways
