The point in my original post was that they’re in the UK like 2 days before Pitchfork. So I doubt they’d wanna fly back straight after playing a show and be too jet lagged to play pitchfork. so while maybe they seem like more of a pitchfork band, it seems like this year Riot Fest is the most likely candidate for them if they wanted to play a Chicago festival.
You're very spot-on here. Taking a look at the Riot Fest line-ups throughout its entire existence, the number of softer indie-type acts at the top of the line-up (or even in the middle of the line-up!) is pretty small. I don't think it's a lack of crossover appeal. Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker both have a lot of that. I just don't think Riot Fest is particularly interested in booking artists like that. Similarly, I think a lot of acts who are in that Lolla/Coachella/pop world aren't particularly motivated to ask about playing Riot Fest... When the other festivals are more the "world" they're operating in. And in a lot of cases, it may not even be the artist. I just doubt Phoebe Bridgers is sitting around going: "Y'know? Instead of playing this 75k capacity festival that is paying me a shit-ton of money, I think I want to play a cooler festival with a bunch of rock bands for significantly less where a decent chunk of the audience won't care about me." I know that sounds cynical but... I think it's the reality.
Attack Attack at Riot would have been funny but it’s only like 3 original members so I don’t know how much people would care haha
Eskimo Callboy & Attack Attack! are probably out, playing Chicago in October.. I must've accidently deleted and here's the Welcome to Rockville lineup, there's usually always a few crossovers that play Riot (like maybe 3 or 4 bands??)
Guilty pleasure, The Pretty Reckless. I have a huge crush on Taylor Momsen. So I would be down for them playing too
Agnostic Front makes tons of sense for Saturday with the Misfits headlining wow, looking at the Riot history page.. Sick of it All has never played Riot??.. I could've sworn they did lol
Oh yeah, I could see a few. Baroness, Clutch, Ministry, ALEXISONFIRE, and Jane’s Addiction would rule. And obviously would like Foo Fighters. SP is out too… And I doubt they’d ever be on, but TBDM on Riot would be sick as hell, if Riot were tj ever go that direction
I don't think them being on Rockville makes them a "lock" for Riot Fest considering that it's in May. If they announce a spring run around that date with a Chicago stop, I think that would rule them out. But if it doesn't hit up Chicago, then maybe.
yes, but more of as a joke. Like “hey, they’re going to be here so that means they must be at Riot, right?!”
What about some post punk bands? Squid, Shame, Dry Cleaning, Fontaine’s D.C., TV Priests, Pottery, Black Country, New Road, etc.? Maybe a post punk stage?
don't jinx it! Squid is doing US/Canada in early spring so late-summer US festivals aren't a crazy idea.
Jack White is doing a show in Chicago in April, but he's got a pretty extensive tour that ends at the end of August.. so unless he's a last minute replacement as 3rd headliner, I'd consider him out..
Is it within 90 days, even if it isn't.. it'd really makes no sense to me for him to book an arena show in April then play Lolla in July unless it sells out quickly.. just a gut feeling
