And I went and saw it then, and I would probably still go see it again if they did FC at Riot. I'm a sucker for that record.
They didnt do it at the Concord this year. I will be stoked if they played it at Riot. Crossing my fingers for it. My 2 biggest bets are Thursday and or Taking Back Sunday being added on Friday. Im surprised Riot didnt got any of MCR support acts at the festival and those 2 would make me so happy if they play their same stage
I wouldn’t put it past them to promote this group, encourage volunteering at the park, only to pull the rug out once they’re forced to move again.
Or maybe that's a "we hear you, we're sorry & thank you for letting us use it" gesture? (I'm usually so painfully optimistic I'll screw myself over so this is my first thought lol)
I’m assuming Friday will be LS Dunes and Saturday will have Thursday. I don’t see both Frank and Thursday doing double duty on Friday.
I had a terrible migraine during their set last time they played, so I would love to actually get to enjoy a Riot Fest set from them.
I was glad they played on the small stage so I could at least go sit on the hill in the shade and watch them.
Totally off topic, but I've always found it kind of odd when a radio station "Presents/Welcomes" a band in town for a show when said band's songs have likely never been played on said station.
I won tickets to a Goldfinger/Reel Big Fish/Mest show in 2001 (I think) by being the 9th caller into our local station (99x out of Peoria, IL) and before I hung up I asked the guy if they were gonna be playing any Goldfinger and he said "I'll see what we can do." Never did get to hear Counting the Days or even Superman on the radio but they welcomed and presented the shit out of that show with banners all over the Madison Theater.
This is way more common now than it used to be. But as a former radio station promotion worker I fully appreciated it whenever it would happen. I used to get guest listed at all these different shows and get paid to attend/hand out stickers after. It was pretty sweet, even if the station I worked for was more focused on playing the new Foo Fighters or White Stripes singles than whatever major label Best Buy endcap punk band's show I was attending. (That sounds derogatory but it's just a real easy way to describe the type of bands that would get the "Presents/Welcomes" tag at the time that the station wouldn't play or might barely play: Alkaline Trio, Rise Against, Gaslight Anthem, Against Me!, etc.)
a few years ago my local butt rock station actually booked Flogging Molly on their yearly single day fest and Dave King said the same thing into the mic - "thanks to The Point for having us, maybe this means they will actually fuckin start spinnin us!" and it got a big cheer from the crowd, though they never got played as far as i can tell. that day was their best booked fest of the last decade, that side stage had meg myers-> highly suspect-> flogging molly as the 3 closers and i just rode that rail for all 3.
See, at the station I worked at... They were at least good about having the bands on the festival played on-air. Even the local openers. Of course, they'd drop most of those singles from rotation the week before/after the festival so it was always a bit of a farce and there was usually some sort of weird "not quite payola" scheme going along with it all from what I heard... But it was real fun being able to play Pennywise, Against Me!, and Rise Against at bar promotions while that was happening.
I remember in 2013 (a bit before I moved to SoCal), I was in LA and KROQ was playing My Friends Over You because NFG was hitting LA soon (I think it was the co-headliner with ALK3, if memory serves). Never heard them on the station since
That sounds like a sick job and "Best Buy end cap punk band" pretty much defines my music taste from 1998-2005. Well played. That's hilarious. I'm surprised more bands don't point that shit out. Now I wanna watch Airheads.
Knocked Loose and Code Orange are on a rap tour that’s in Indianapolis on Saturday and St. Louis on Sunday. Could see either of them (but specifically Knocked Loose) playing on Friday either at the fest or as an aftershow.
