There are presumably more bands getting added (relatively soon)

also interesting there's still a ???? for that Four Chord (my guess is Midtown or atleast someone in the same ballpark)

Still not convinced there's more bands coming. Everything they've released/posted has said it's the "full line-up," there aren't any of the tell-tale question marks on the poster, the leaked stage designation footage didn't have any question marks or new bands either, etc.

Obviously, they can change their mind at any point on that and nobody would complain. But I'm not sure why they wouldn't say they have more bands coming if they did. That's what they've done every year. They don't usually call it the "full" line-up until that second wave gets announced.

Regardless, I'm shocked Allister isn't playing too! They would be a great late-day Rebel or early day main stage act. Especially with that album play.

    Things have changed.

It's not Midtown – it's an active band

When I say more bands... it could easily just be 3 or 4 bands per day, because there's still open spots..

Although I'm starting to think whatever Riot Mike was talking about, is probably overblown

I mean, there's technically open spots. But the number of bands each year swings a little bit. And if Nine Inch Nails and My Chemical Romance both want to play 90 minutes or more... That eliminates much of the wiggle room.

I'd love to be wrong because more bands is never a bad thing. But if they're adding more bands they're deviating from all usual patterns and underplaying their hand.

  6. I'm with you on all of this. I really think this is the lineup for the fest proper, but I'd love to be wrong. If they aren't later adds (or at least after shows), I'd be so curious to find out why Riot didn't go for (or couldn't get) Elliot, Allister, Further Seems Forever, etc.

Ok.. I'll concede, but I do still think by the time the lineup comes out total 3 or 4 bands will get added/dropped/changed... 2 or 3 have been the norm for Riot even before the pandemic, and now it's just the nature of most festivals I think going for the foreseeable future.

I'm always curious about this sort of thing and have similar thoughts around some of the "indie-punk" artists recently referenced (Charly Bliss, Illuminati Hotties).

I do wonder if part of the reason is the popularity of these bands versus what Riot can offer. Riot is a bigger festival with strong headliners who also puts a focus on the undercard. But when you're an older punk/emo band without a lot of notoriety? You're probably gonna find yourself playing at 1 or 2pm.

Compare that to Furnace Fest or Four Chords, and I think it's a "better deal" for Elliot and Allister. They're probably making about as much money with a better time slot while playing to a more "targeted" crowd with a larger swath of bands that are cut from the same proverbial cloth. It doesn't help the bands expand, really, but if that's not what they're going for anyway...

You also have to figure that some of these older bands have to take time off work and time away from their family to do this. So that's a limitation as well (in that they can't just book everything they want; they probably need to pick and choose).

if this is indeed the full lineup, Charley Bliss has to be very high on the list of replacements and/or playing an after show since they have dates with JEW right before and after Riot

Bring on a Jimmy Eat World aftershow with Charly Bliss opening!

I still don’t understand how they (Charly Bliss) aren’t playing the actual festival

There's so many different reasons this could be the case. Maybe the Jimmy Eat World tour got booked after Riot was already put together and there was no room for Charly Bliss on the bill. Could be there was an offer and the set time versus money wasn't working for the band. Maybe they have plans to come back to Chicago later in the year. Maybe they just aren't on Riot's radar at all.

And honestly, I'd imagine a day-off hanging out in Deluxe VIP at a festival like Riot (for free) could be just as enticing to an actively touring band as playing it, TBH. Especially if they would just be opening a main stage early in the day.

Still really hoping there's an aftershow that involves them, though!

EDIT: They are also not on Four Chord. So maybe they just don't want to do any festivals on this run?

    Give what you can.

I remember being pretty surprised RX Bandits wasn't on the lineup too given that there's no Chicago stop on their tour, and when someone brought that up on their Instagram they indicated that an announcement for a Chicago show was forthcoming. That said, I'm hoping there's a Drive Thru Invasion Tour II in the works since most of the bands from their heyday are right around the 20th anniversary of getting big.

I’m assuming CB is a bit more selective for what kind of festivals they play. Riot Fest may not be what they’re aiming for right now.

They’re also entering an album cycle so yes, they’ll likely be back later this year.

I was going to say that last I knew it was Scott singing lead but hey, Tim is back. Haven’t talked to any of them in years.

I wanted to convey this but couldn't figure out a way to politely say it, hah. But yeah... They may also be picking where they play (and who they play to) very particularly. Especially with a new album on the way.

And that Jimmy Eat world tour skips a whole mess of cities/bigger markets.

With gas being $5 a gallon, I can't imagine flying & finding a cheap hotel being that much more expensive after factoring in all the time you'd save not driving.

Just posted this in the buying/selling tickets thread but figured there was a lot of Chicago people here. I have a spare ticket for the Motion City Soundtrack show in Chicago **TONIGHT** - 6/7. Originally paid $50 but willing to accept less to take it off my hands. Hit me up if you're interested!

I feel bad for the people who paid full price for their New Year show, just for it to get rescheduled with tickets being half the original price.

Just got an email from Riot saying 3 day passes are almoat sold out. But most importantly this:

"We haven't even gotten to Late Night shows, more bands to be announced, and a few other surprises you'll find out about in the coming weeks"

More bands incoming! For all the non-believers
