Went to see Gwar this past weekend, and had no idea the bass player left, felt a smidge empty on stage with only 4 band members. show seemed a little scaled down also. was my 4th time seeing them, but 1st time in the splash zone, was not disappointed, and always glad to get a potential conflict out of the way before riot even starts.
I wonder if we will get Riot Mike's announcement by the end of the month? Honestly, if it's just more stages (and not bringing back one small stage, I'm talking BIGLY) .. I'd be down, especially since there's tons of not headliners but higher tier bands we thought were locks still without Chicago dates and that price hike has to mean something.. (and the Gang of Four mystery???)
More stages would be cool, though I did like how spacious things were last year. It was easy to navigate and kept noise bleed to a minimum. Not sure where else they could position stages without messing that up too much... Adding one additional bigger stage somewhere could work maybe? And if it allowed for ~15 acts over the course of the weekend (~5 per day), I think that would justify the hype/fit the narrative if the support acts were strong enough. It could also be a specifically special/themed stage (not in the usual way; literally called out as a certain stage name/designation). Regarding the Gang of Four thing, though... That may have just been a last-minute change. That's happened before. I forget what year it was but there was one year that Good Charlotte was meant to play - and listed on a variation of the poster that somehow found its way out post-announcement. So they may have been meant to be on the whole thing... And dropped out day before announcement. I guess that's the beauty of hints. It leaves Riot with plausible deniability.
Is that person saying there will be Riot Fest news next week? I’m confused what “I’ll see you next week” means otherwise, considering the context of the tweet.
I could very easily see an Alexisonfire/Elliot aftershow and would sign up for that in a heartbeat just to see Elliot. Hah. I'm still not so convinced there's a second wave coming. They always have question marks on the poster and outright say more bands are coming. And we have zero indication of that this year. Just that some "special events" are coming up. So they're either being super cautious about it given what happened last year with "more bands" and album plays... Or it's just not a thing. It could happen; just feels incredibly unlikely given all the evidence.
No way Elliott will be an after show if they play (in my opinion) I don't think anything makes Riot Mike happier than announcing album plays There's 2 or 3 spots still open for each day even if there's no actual second wave, plus depending on the world.. bands could drop and they will need backups (although I don't think it will be anything like last year with bands dropping.. knocks on wood)
Sucks for the Strokes and sucks for Boston Calling with nearly less than 24 hours before they were meant to take the stage.
Interesting Reddit thread from the mcr subreddit speculating (while showing their work) that Ls dunes beyond including Anthony green may also have members of Thursday and Frank Iero. I’ll believe it when I see it but i hope it’s real, that sounds awesome https://www.reddit.com/r/MyChemical...urce=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Anthony's involvement had me excited enough. This brings it to another level. Can not wait to see whatever this band is.
I am seriously debating going to that Strokes show if more tickets become available, although the $200 price tag is definitely making me hard question how much I truly want to go.
I was just thinking about it and one of the main things other fests have that they don’t is a livestream. Maybe the announcement is them finally getting a deal with someone to broadcast the fest.
When thinking about potential conflicts, I was wondering what we're thinking with Yellowcard's time slot on Saturday? I know they're billed high so I have a hunch they're closing a stage, but at the same time it feels weird to see Ocean Avenue at night? I'd almost rather them play The Golden Hour© (selfishly so that I can see Bad Religion close)
