I don't think she'd be top three. She'd probably be about the same level as MGK; maybe a bit higher. Riot values legacy over current popularity. She'd definitely be at the very top of the poster, but there's no way that she'd headline the day. Not in 2021. Maybe in like, 2026 if she continues the trajectory that she's on. But yeah, I feel like Lolla is in her future rather than Riot.
Superchunk just announced a new album today. So hope this means they’re possibly in the running EDIT: Tour was also announced and they’ll be in Chicago March 9th. I think that still makes them an option!
Tame Impala doesn't have a Chicago date on their next tour, but my guess is that means Lolla (or not?) They also appear to be doing some shows in Europe in September They could also not be playing any of the festivals, there's lots of gaps in the dates to add more shows
They played Lolla in 2019, not sure if they would booked them again that soon. At leat I hope they dont
I would probably assume Tame Impala goes to Lolla over Riot. But Riot could definitely be in play for them at this point. God, that would be a bummer of a third for me.
they played the uc earlier this year back in September doubt they come back so soon and play the same venue
Tenacious D announced several dates in June, but all on the West Coast... and oddly enough they are playing Telluride Bluegrass (wtf)
Bright Eyes announced a tour that hits Chicago in March & has them in Europe through Lolla. They play their last show in Europe just a few days before pitchfork. I’m thinking they’re likelier for Riot based off of that.
Pitchfork hasn't announced their dates for next year, right? I was assuming they were moving back to July.
Aren't they known to not tour that often, would be surprised they play Chicago twice in one year.. but I guess it's possible, I don't know about likely
Also Bright Eyes isn’t a Pitchfork darling like past headliners (LCD Soundsystem, Haim, FKA Twigs, Chance, Phoebe, Sufjan, Fleet Foxes, St. Vincent, etc.) so I’m not sure how likely they would be for P4K fest.
I always kind of imagined them in that Raconteurs slot - last band on the Roots stage and sort of the defacto headliner if the top billed name is a slightly more niche reunion or something.
Bright Eyes is playing like 2k cap rooms compared to Misfits and MCR playing arenas I don't think they're a headliner but I'm sure they close whatever stage they play
I’m already going to be leaving the park crying after I see MCR and realize I finally got to see them live but sure that works too
I'd be sad if the best Riot can do for a 3rd headliner is Phoebe Bridgers, no offense.. just don't see it happening
Well she’s pretty darn good and would definitely attract people to the park. Plus a lot of the Riot crowd is now into her since she blew the fuck up so she would actually be a fit.
On the subject of headliners, if Gwen Stefani puts out an album next year and it’s ska influenced like “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” (which dropped this year), I could see her potentially headlining. I know she’s mainly “pop” but I think she has enough cred where she could pull it off. Especially since a No Doubt reunion doesn’t seem in the cards anytime soon…
I think the chance for Phoebe to do Riot has kind of passed for a while. It might've made sense to book her in an afternoon slot a couple years ago to add something a little different. But I don't see them grabbing her as a headliner, and I guess it could make sense in the way Father John Misty played several years ago and she could sit in that slot, but I think he had more to gain by trying to win over a new audience than she currently does. I'll be shocked if her next Chicago fest appearance isn't Lolla.
same, nothing against her or her style, i just dont see soft indie pop/singer songwriter headlining the final night of a punk festival... she could def be in the MGK/FJM slot though. her skeleton suit sorta fits the spooky vibe this year has though! lol
