If I were going: Friday: My Chemical Romance - Alkaline Trio - Portugal the Man - Bleachers - Placebo - The Wonder Years - Less Than Jake - Hot Mulligan - Pale Waves Saturday: Yellowcard - Sunny Day Real Estate - The Story So Far - The Front Bottoms - Alexisonfire - Movements - Bully - Mannequin Pussy - Charlotte Sands Sunday: Nine Inch Nails - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Ice Cube - The Academy Is - Jimmy Eat World - Action Bronson - The Maine - Midtown - Real Friends - The Juliana Theory
As much as I love this fest, it really does make the park unusable for locals for two weeks and in pretty rough shape for longer than that, especially if it rains, and it's not the only festival at the park. It's something I have conflicted feelings about as a suburbanite who hangs out in the neighborhood one weekend of the year. I think Portugal. The Man and Descendents will close their respective stages during MCR. No Trigger rules, but I also have a ton to check out.
I mean, it's really easy to just ignore the Twitter thing. Haha. It's not like he's doing anything problematic... Just talking too much. I'm on the "non-ironic" enjoyment train as well, and I wince every time they get lumped in with Matchbox 20 and Third Eye Blind and shit. It's fully not the same thing other than the fact that they played vaguely poppy music that got played on alt-rock radio at the same time. Industry plant stage confirmed for 2023.
Descendents will close their stage, but I think it'll be over before MCR start. I could see Descendents-Alk3-MCR as well I think Portugal's set will end like 10-15 minutes into MCR, kind of like 2017 with Paramore and Jawbreaker
Yeah the complaints about the park being unusable for weeks before and after the festival as well as the weekend of the festival are very valid. Especially since this is a park in an underserved/working class/poor-ish community, and it is one residents actually use. Also as @troyplaysbass touched upon, and this is the case for pretty much all the major festivals in Chicago, a lot of people just come for the one weekend of the fest, trash the park (and sometimes be obnoxious), and then leave without any care for the area residents and how they cannot use their local park (especially since there really aren’t that many warm weekends in Chicago). So I fully understand why residents in the community are angry every year this festival, and others at the park like the Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash, continue to happen.
Save Face is VERY influenced my MCR, & also from Jersey. Cliffdiver is super good pop punk with horns, just dropped an incredible album last week. The Bombpops are a solid SoCal Fat Wreck band with male & female vocalists
I LOVE Save Face. I actually saw them this weekend with SLS, that was the second time in the past 3 months I've seen them. I will have to check the other ones, thanks. Edit: I listened to 2 The Bombpops songs, they are cool, they remind me a lot of a band I really like called Not On Tour.
It's funny because I caught them a few years back at RF and they blew me away but when I saw them again this year they looked and sounded like a totally different band. I know they did some lineup changes and rebranding before the last album came out.
Seconding the Cliffdiver suggestion! Caught them at Fest and they were fantastic live - and that new album is so much (sad) fun! I adore them and def think they are worth exploring more. Their two Fat Wreck LPs and the EP on there too are fantastic. Everything before that is "fine," but gets a bit repetitive. Not On Tour are sick! I love them and would have assumed I was the only person on the site into it. Haha.
is there any chance Amyl and the sniffers get added after their chicago show this saturday? im harping on this omission cuz they are my fav band of the last year or so and it makes zero since why a band from austrailia would have 1 gig in nyc in september and then nothing else, i guess still plenty of time for a tour announcement. and their show this weekend is already sold out (and has been for a while) so holding them off til after doesnt make a ton of sense , but i guess if there is a 'no announcing until after the club show happens' rule, then it is what it is.. or they just arent on the line up at all.
i wouldnt quite take it that far, i understand the sentiment. i was more referring to him being in the replies of literally every band thats posted the lineup with in minutes
The lack of a "more bands TBA" and "second wave coming" or whatever has me thinking this is what we're getting for the year. One thought about Amyl specifically, though: Given the hype/buzz about the band, I wonder if there's a chance they're flying out for a label showcase of sorts? Or maybe they'll be announcing another tour?
??? I was just adding on to @troyplaysbass comment explaining why the complaints are valid. I think you can attend this festival and also realize that it’s a nuisance to the surrounding underserved community. I live across the street from a park that for like two whole summers was not accessible due to renovations and it fucking sucked.
Not that I'm aware of. Rocket from the Crypt and Cliffdiver both use horns, though... And Lucky Boys Confusion has a few songs with a similar bounce. But that's as close as it gets.
I apologize if you thought I was being snarky.. It was just a simple yes or no question, because I honestly don't know if you are
