random thought of the day - did ritofest twitter ever mention the mgk/slipknot beef? i dont remember ever seeing it and its interesting they didnt try to wade into it at all, even just cracking jokes, considering it mostly reignited at their fest.. maybe its because they didnt want to pick sides? maybe they didnt want to be known for their artists beefing with each other? seems like a missed opportunity to keep your name in the discourse since that story went on for a few weeks
I feel like that "beef" probably felt just a bit "too real" for them to jump in with a joke. If they made the joke neutral, nobody would have picked up on it in the press and it wouldn't really even be part of the discourse. If they made it something that was anti-MGK? He probably wouldn't have responded with much beyond "Yeah bitch then why'd you book me at your old ass festival with old people who are old?" ... And then they'd be stuck dealing with the MGK stans calling them "old" or "not lit" or whatever for the next 3 weeks. Probably better to just keep their mouths shut on the topic. Haha.
So I made this a while ago and also made a schedule for it but never posted it anywhere. My way too early swing at next year’s lineup. I’ll probably eventually throw it along with my schedule up on Reddit, but I figured I’d get the adults’ opinions on it first
Dig it, but my humble opinion: 1. The Killers are out as they have a Chicago date of their US tour September 21 2. I don’t think King Crimson is a “Riot band” and I don’t see them playing. I’d say the same thing about Nelly 3. Very much hope a lot of the 2021 cancelled bands show up (Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., FNM) Otherwise, I could see a lot of these bands being possibilities Maybe this will finally be the year RBF plays Riot!
It seems Lollapalooza is booking Turnstile for all their international editions, so its likely they will play Chicago too. Bummer as I would love to see them at Riot again, they would fit the main stage same day as Misfits
Speaking of lolla I think Pearl Jam might be headlining I don’t think they had a Chicago date on their tour last year that they are rescheduling for next year
You didn't lose your job, I said I doubt they were playing lol!! Their tour dates are March & April of next year, so even if they were playing Chicago.. it wouldn't necessarily rule them out for Riot... Also, they have a Peoria date.. yea it's like a 3 hour drive from Chicago, but I guess if you really want to see them it's worth the drive
Those judist priest dates are rescheduled dates they already played Chicago before they had to cancel/postpone
Foo Fighters don't have a Chicago date yet for their tour they just announced this summer... do not really take that as anything, because they probably have more dates to announce.. I just think they are too big for Riot, but who knows
Really think they'll play Lolla again... they played this year? My guess is they are waiting to get a date at WRIGLEY (d'oh!)
Did you mean Wrigley Field? Fenway is Boston, which they don't have a date for because they're playing Boston Calling in May just ahead of this run of dates.
Updates are fine, but it is amusing. Almost any artist announces a Chicago date, and then there’s a post in here saying they’re out for Riot Fest haha.
For the most part when artists list a date in Chicago within 90 days of Riot, that usually means they are out.. there's obviously exceptions, but that's been the norm for years
I skip out on mentioning a lot of artists that I think have zero chance to ever be booked at Riot.. just this morning there's been like 6 or 7 tour announcements I didn't mention
but thats what we, the riot fest sleuths, do! figure out the line up best we can, quickest we can, haha. NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED!
Speaking of potential outs… The Wonder Years has 2, count em… 2, Chicago dates on their upcoming tour… March 4, 5. AND they’re playing two albums in full. Does that mean they’re likely out? Also, Spanish Love Songs are on the tour too.
