i wonder if GD gallows and regular gallows deal with that alot? Same with Code orange & agent Orange, also of Mice & Men and Of Monsters & men, lol

Haha. I wouldn't go that far, and a bit of it is an assumption applying the logic I am familiar with in booking a tour that's been shot to hell with a pandemic as opposed to a large festival like Riot. So there might be a bit of a logical fallacy there. Smarter people than I with more skin in the game are ultimately in charge of making those decisions so I'll happily defer to them. We all want the same goal of a killer and safe Riot Rest going down ultimately.

I think most of those are stylistically different that it's uncommon, but it has to have happened at least once or twice with Mice & Men and Of Monsters & Men.

This is only loosely related, but there were no less than 50 people who started booing Henry Rollins whatever year it was that he was booked for Montebello Rockfest... Because he wasn't performing music.

None of the big country or rock festivals in Northern MN have cancelled yet and they are starting in June. They are mostly focused on camping/drinking with concerts at night, but the crowds can get pretty big. They are definitely in Trump territory, but they all did cancel last summer.

Assuming local regulations are aligned, I don't see the majority of festivals cancelled unless ticket sales are slumping or there's a substantial number of fans e-mailing them about refunds.

There's exceptions. But I would be willing to bet the vast majority will stay as planned unless regulations change.

(Note: Not saying I agree with it. Just thinking on what will probably happen. At the end of the day, it's less about affiliations so much as needing to protect their financials. And the financial repercussions for canceling because of a government rule change is probably pretty different than just saying "This doesn't feel safe" and pulling the plug. Capitalism, amiright?)

Just listened to an interview with Marko from Sugarcult on the Talking Records Podcast. Sounds like they currently don't have plans to play any 20-year anniversary shows (mentioning that it was "difficult to get Sugarcult together"). Discussions around that would probably have already started and he was pretty clear about saying there were no current plans for shows. So, unfortunately, I don't think that will be happening for Riot.

He did mention that there's discussions about a repress and some new merch, though, which is kinda cool.

This might change, and there's still wave 3 they might get primed for but I'm feeling doubtful after hearing that.

Waxahatchee has a hole in her tour in the midwest skipping Chicago for the weekend before Riot, so I think that's when Pitchfork are probably looking at doing their fest. (she was booked for Pitchfork last year, but so was Run the Jewels).. which is kind of baffling, but oh well

Mt Joy just listed their tour dates with Trampled By Turtles are skipping Chicago the last weekend of August, so that's my guess for the weekend of Lolla.. Wonderbus festival in Cleveland is that weekend as well, and lots of the acts scream Lolla

All Them Witches is playing the Metro in December, so they are probably out

Do we know what the Thursday day is going to be like? Will it be a full days worth of sets, just evening sets, or just a few acts playing?

Might go see JBREKKIE that day (it’s sold out but would grab resale ticket) if the Thursday day isn’t too exciting.

I'm under the impression it will just be evening sets

"This extra night of Riot Fest will be jam-packed with secret sets from mystery bands, some of which will be Preview Party exclusives! We’re talking bucket list performances and major bragging rights earned. We’re pulling out all the stops for you—no holding back. You won’t want to miss it."

my guess is gates at 4pm, show at 5pm. 4-8 bands on the 2 main stages, and possibly 1 other stage if its higher end of the total band count

Man, I can barely survive 2 days of Riot Fest, 4 days will have me dead for sure, not to mention going to the city so many times. No way I'm driving this year, I'll take the purple line instead.

I took the purple line a few years ago and the walk back from the festival to the station after a full day of shows was excruciating.

They need to move the gates closer to the subway. The long walk is ridiculous.

There is this festival I like to go in Mexico City and the entrance is close to the subway, in the last years the line to get in went all the way into the subway station.

I have never seen a line that long at Riot, but I can see why they won't move it closer to the subway.

I was referring to the pink line actually. I live in Chicago and don’t take the blue line to get to the fest/home, but that’s good to know!

i lucked out 4 years ago by snagging an airbnb literal steps from the fest (halfway between douglass park and lagunitas, which are only a block apart, haha) and made a friendship with the owner of the property so she has allowed me to pre-book every year before she opens up the rooms on airbnb, so i juts have to park once the night before and then walk all weekend. or take a lyft if i wanna get breakfast or go to an aftershow

We stayed out near Jefferson Park last time at an airbnb.. there was 6 of us, saved me a lot of money but I don't know if that same group will come this year.. I'm not sure what I'll do if I'm solo or with just one or two other friends... and it's way too early for me to book anything... There's almost no way I can do all 4 days, I'm hoping one of the days has a weak lineup to give my old ass a break lol

This is where I was falling as well. Two alternating stages and maybe the side stage. I was thinking it would be more of the Rise/Radicals stage than the two main ones, though.

I'm really, really curious to see what sort of acts they get for that thing. I know it doesn't quite fall under the "bragging rights" category, but I would kill for a Lawrence Arms "Greatest Story" set on that side stage.

I'd put a lot of money on the International Superheros of Hardcore as one of the bands

I think on Twitter they mentioned one of the bands already announced will be playing the Thursday.. and I know I've said this before, but knowing Riot it'll probably be Thursday

I would also love to know who is playing, will make my decision on JBREKKIE that day much easier.

God, that would make me so happy. Is there anything from the NFG camp that might hint at them doing this? Is there an anniversary coming up or something?

EDIT: How great would it be if it wasn't Thursday on Thursday, but instead another band already playing songs by Thursday.

No but I mean, it fits the description of a bucket list performance and NFG is already booked so trying to think like Riot, that's who I came up with

like Dinosaur Jr is almost definitely getting added on the next wave, so a Folk Implosion set could happen

I expect some really cool shit, but I don't expect a major headliner type name

There's no way it's going to be a massive surprise band like Op Ivy or Fugazi on the Thursday night, that would be awesome but also insane on their part

I honestly wouldn't expect a Folk Implosion set. Mostly because it feels like that would be too much of an endeavor for the people involved for it to be a "surprise" one-off thing. Y'know? And I agree with you. It's going to be something "really cool" but definitely not a headliner-type act.

ISHC actually fits pretty nicely. It wouldn't be too tricky for the band to re-learn those songs and it would probably be super fun for them.

Actually, thinking on it. Y'know what would be cool? Gorilla Biscuits and ISHC on that second stage. Actually, who knows? GB might get added in wave 2. I hadn't thought about that yet. But that's a possibility.
