If the festival ever moved to the suburbs, I would stop attending. The suburban options are places with no easy public transportation and as great as Riot is, not worth the effort to go outside of the city. Douglas is already fairly inconvenient.

Just read that thread and a big suggestion was requiring proof of vaccination to attend. I mean I’m hoping people just get the shot so that’s not necessary but I would be happy to show proof of being vaccinated if it meant safely enjoying the festival like normal times.

Fortunately, I think any talk of it moving to the suburbs is just people yammering and making assumptions about the need to "increase capacity." I would guess it happens in the usual format or it doesn't happen at all.

Would there even be enough in terms of hotels to manage that? I'm familiar with the suburbs surrounding Chicago, so I know there's a decent number of hotels/motels... But enough to handle a festival crowd? I dunno.

That is inevitably going to happen at some events, especially any taking place early in the summer. Riot is later in the season, so might be a moot point by then.

But I also really do think that people who say they won't get vaccinated might cave if it prevents them form doing something they want to do. So it honestly might be good if certain events require it.

That said, I am still on team "I think we'll have at least half the country who wants to get the vaccine vaccinated by early to mid-summer," so I think it'll be moot by the time Riot rolls around.

Disregard what I said above, if it moves to the suburbs and this happens I’m back in

  6. For real, take the Metra to Lombard and I can drive you from there (this goes for any suburbs show).

Bartees Strange is on the Lucy Dacus tour this fall, which hits the Vic Theater in October, HOWEVER, he is suspiciously not on the Chicago date, despite being on the rest of that leg of the tour. Potential Riot Fest act?

  8. Bartees seems like a great fit for any festival. I could even see him in an early day slot on Lolla.

Are you from Lombard? I go there a lot with my dog, there's a nice pond I take her to. The Brauer House has some of the worst people ever, though.

  10. I moved there about two years ago. It's a really nice area, especially the parks. I had been to a few shows at Brauer House before, so I was excited to live close to it, but not anymore after seeing how their ownership has handled everything that happened in the past year.

I think Bartees could play any of these festivals and it would make sense. I'd call that gap a lock for Lolla or Riot.

Yeah, I went there a few times and the sight of bikers with confederate flags kinda turned me away. It is a really nice area though, I go there a lot.

as soon as i get my 2nd does, im getting a copy of the vax card made and then laminate the copy, put iot on a lanyard and gonna treat it like its a backstage pass, lol. Dont do it to your original one though incase you need a booster later on cuz they will need to be able to write on it!!

also they can just rewrite your info on a new card as long as you have a copy or photo of your original card.

Whatever you do, don't laminate the original... also I'm not sure if a copy will work as proof

seems like they will have to allow one of the 2 options if it does start being used similar to a 'passport'. aint no way unsecured/unprotected, small piece paper will be kept in good condition if its required to bring around everywhere. i guess they could create a digital version/app or something, but even then that will still exclude a certain percentage of the population that dont own smart phones.

I'll just say this... wait & see first before you laminate.. and also treat the original like it's a birth certificate, passport or social security card

You've been vaccinated. So what should you do with your vaccine card?

When I got my first vaccine, the doctor who gave me the shot said that the vaccine card is just a souvenir at this point and I can throw it away.

I still held on to mine anyway, but wow he's a real dumbass if we do in fact need to hold on to these.

I hate you all for pushing that Reddit thread into my brain. The pessimism is literally clouding reality.

The bizarre assumption that any festival would "just wait to see until it's a guarantee" to start planning something, or that current deals with vendors and acts aren't designed to allow everybody an easy out that would minimize financial damages to all... Is really, really wield to me. Trying to get events like this in play while it seems like a possibility would benefit everyone. And if it isn't able to happen, then everybody loses. A reasonable person would have to assume that people are working together far more collaboratively on this than they usually would.

Also: There is no way Riot Fest is going to shift to "something smaller" with a handful of bands and move to the suburbs. At that point, they'd just cancel the main event, refund or rollover tickets for 2022 and call the new event something like "Mini-Riot."

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Yeah. That's kind of my viewpoint on the matter. I'm not going to be completely optimistic and say this is happening 100% regardless because that's just the nature of the pandemic, and we've seen varying responses depending on the locality, but the behind-the-scenes folks in the music scene are 100% trying to make this work...sometimes to the point where individual booking agents have rebooked holds on tour dates upwards of 5+ times. Riot Fest has surely been working on this year's iteration since the cancellation of last year's...that probably also doesn't mean they probably don't have a few contingency options in place for alternative events if another pandemic related cancellation came up.

At first I thought you were talking about the British band Gallows, like: "Goddamn! Gallows announced a tour."

I always forget that you have a bit more "inside baseball" information than most of us, hah.

I guess my perspective is, based on common sense: If you ran, say, a security agency. And you're used to Riot Fest paying you $X up-front to put a hold on staff for a certain weekend. Wouldn't it be better to secure that spot, forgoing the deposit or taking less than usual given cashflow... Because if the event gets cancelled it's not like there's other major events that will be happening that same weekend (assuming the cancellation is due to COVID). Better to secure the future work than have nothing. That's the sort of stuff I'm talking about. Two parties figuring out how to best make this work and mitigating losses across the board for everyone.

I'm not 100% that it is happening, but I am 100% that people are collaborating behind the scenes to try and make it work out as best as it can. And people are making consolidations they might not normally make.

That is exactly what I thought too!
