HIM doesn't really fit the aesthetic. But if it was some sort of "reunion" thing, I guess it might happen?

That being said, I really don't think they'd be a very big get in the States at this point. The last time they were in the US was in 2007 they were billed under Taking Back Sunday on the Project Revolution Tour. And I'd wager their popularity here has declined rather than maintained steady in that time.

I feel like they would just do that European headlining run and call it a day.

They where last in the states in 2017 for the farewell tour. The Chicago stop was a sell out of memory serves me correct. With that being said I agree that they don’t fit what riot usually books

Whups, my B. Whatever fan site I was looking at was out of date. My point still stands though...

A band who played an 1,800-cap room on their farewell tour, that doesn't have some sort of mythical lore around them or whatever, isn't a headline grabber/huge reunion get for Riot Fest so close to the band ending things. Especially for the $$$ they would likely want.

They're a niche band without much reach beyond that niche. If they were planning a full US tour I could see them being on the bill as they could arguably fit (this year, for example, I could see them being on the Pumpkins stage) but I don't think they would make a trip to the US just for Riot.

This is true. I know several young girls who have all been groped by their frontman Rob. All of which were underage at the time, like 15-17 years old. Happened on the State Champs tour. They gross me out.

Funeral For A Friend are doing some special ahows in April in the UK. That would definitely be a bucket list show for me.

this was announced yesterday but they wont bring it over here to the states let alone for a fest. they hate touring the states. they haven't been here since 2009

thanks for the tip about Don Brocco. they were on my playlist of "Bands on the line up i dont know yet" which is where i have discovered a ton of my now absolute favorites... always nice when i can just go ahead and wittle that list down and delete them off.

and i would be cool to see FFAF again (saw them twice in the early/mid aughts opening for from autumn to ashes, then again for coheed) but i mainly only know 7 ways to scream your name, and a little bit of the first full length. Do they ever reach that far back for their setlist?? looks like id have a lot of catching up to do, lol

While it would be awesome for riot fest to get FFAF I HIGHLY DOUBT IT WILL HAPPEN. They have not been to the states since 2009.....

I would love to see Funeral For A Friend again, but...

I'd put them in to the same category as HIM. It wouldn't make sense for them to come stateside unless it were for a full-blown tour or a run of multiple festivals.

They have a draw, but it's really not all that big and from a financial perspective it would probably make more sense to stick to where they know they can draw a whole bunch and make more $$$.

It's just easier for some bands to stick to their home territory after a certain point and unfortunately, I think they're in that category.

I wouldn’t read too much into that. They broke from a major label in 2010, and then a number of lineup changes followed before they finished ‘for good’ in 2015/2016
From what I can gather it’s the pre-2010 members playing these Reunion shows, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did play a handful of international shows.

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet. The allegations were retracted several years ago. This band would not continue to receive the level of support they do here in the UK if there was any shady business going on.
Would Riot even book them if they thought there was any hint of truth to those rumours?

Hoping to not derail the thread here, but bands losing support or bookings (especially long term) due to "shady business" is quite often the exception rather than the norm. It's quite often talked about in various threads across the site.

In fact, Riot Fest was under fire a couple years ago for having Jerry Lee Louis (I forget what it was that he did).

    I'm also from the UK.

You know as well as I do that the allegations were retracted because she couldn't win in court. Our courts require cases to be "beyond reasonable doubt" for convictions, which is normally a good way to do things, but leaves issues in cases like this where really you were always going to have at least SOME doubt.

Also, the main type of fans Don Broco generally have are the "lads". They don't care about these allegations at all. Unless there was a conviction it would never affect their popularity.

I can already see that college dude in the crowd stumbling drunk and yelling "that's my jammmm" when "Hey Jealousy" hits while spilling beer all over the poor people around him.

I don't understand the desire to have bands of that "mid-to-late 90s nice guy pop-rock" ilk on a Riot Fest bill. There's already package tours that cover that whole vibe...

Am i the only one feeling bad about himself because he is wishing that not many people will get tickets by next week so the Thursday event will not be crowded at all? The thought of a Riot Fest day with less crowd sounds amazing but i still feel bad for wishing that people would miss it...

Also, did they ever do surprise sets before? What did they look like?

  22. Daniel182

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Taking Back Sunday did a surprise set in 2015. They played an extra day on a smaller stage that wasn't announced until the day of.

And played the exact same setlist as the night before lol

Because a lot of those bands have a deep influence on modern punk bands and it only makes sense to have a “Roots” artist on a festival with a stage literally called “Roots”.

not sure if it counts, but in 2017 INVSN played friday day, and then saturday morning announced a secret after show saturday night that they got riot to promote as an aftershow. but it all only happened because the next gig they were going to fell through and so they stayed in chicago an extra day and cobbled it together last minute. Not complaining though cuz its one of my favorite concert memories. i was like 2 feet from dennis the whole show, haha
