Also Slipknot killed it. Skipped tbs after show was too too too tired. But god damn this weekend was amazing and much much much needed
The ghost inside had one of the best sets of the weekend. The line “triumph over tragedy” from aftermath hit hard for multiple reasons
What an awesome day. I caught a lot of sets I wasn’t even planning on seeing, and they ended up being the best of the weekend. Health was great industrial rock, I never really listened to them before but I loved their set. Body Count was amazing, Ice T knew how to work the crowd really well. Caught like 5 Thursday songs before heading over to Simple Plan, loved that they did the Scooby Doo song lol Then my friend asked me to come to The Ghost Inside. I never heard them before but it was great. Maybe it was the weed but i was enjoying getting lost in a metal trance. Closed the night with Slipknot, who were fucking awesome. Probably my favorite of the weekend. We left after Duality to beat the rush….still took almost 2 hours to get back to the hotel. Damn Pink line.
Oh yeah I sat in the back for KennyHoopla, was very disappointed. Had a dj kill the first 15 minutes, then it’s just him and a di no band. His vocals were very shotty too. Maybe the energy was better in the crowd.
I had a blast moshing and crowdsurfing for the first time during their set, but yeah that DJ before his set was bad
I think he was drunk. Dude definitely seemed off. I was disappointed too, his set was one of my most hyped for the weekend
That's a shame about Kwnnyhoopla's set. We were torn, but since we missed K.Flay a few years back and haven't had the chance to see her yet we caught her set instead. Sounds like we made the right decision. She absolutely killed it
Said the same thing when I saw it haha tbh I also took note on Thursday/Friday that staff were maybe 50/50 masked at best. But the festival staff was largely made up of small teams of contractors, especially security. The write-up really seems like someone had a fleeting impulse about unmasked staff at the gates and then refused to quit until they had a couple hundred words.
Because doommongering gets clicks. Seen a number of previously trustworthy publications lose my faith since last year as a result (like The Atlantic). No one wore masks at Lolla. No one wore masks at Pitchfork, especially not going through security. Of all the festivals, Riot Fest had the best entrance security staging of all three (having been to all three this year, fuck). AV Club can get fucked with this piece. Ignore the college and professional football games, ignore the packed baseball stadiums, and soon ignore the packed indoor stadiums for basketball and hockey. But no, it’s Riot Fest that’s bad.
12/6 Lumineers / Michigander 12/7 The Killers / girl in red / The Backseat Lovers 12/8 Kings of Leon / Dayglow / almost monday 12/9 Evanescence / Badflower / cleopatrick 12/10 Rise Against / Chevelle / Des Rocs
I love RA, but after seeing them twice in less than a month with the same setlist (except for 2 songs), I will pass
Almost forgot, special shout out to The Ghost Inside, who somehow managed to cram 14 songs (and an intro!) to a 1 hour set. Well done!
Called rise against for the nights we stole Christmas and they are playing with chevelle that’s gonna be epic
Anyone who went on Friday feeling icky today? Throat hurts/nose stuffy/feel kind of lethargic. Feels more like cold symptoms than Covid to me but I scheduled a rapid test for tomorrow regardless.
That Flaming Lips set felt very transcendent last night. After a year+ of not seeing shows and ending my day with that set, it was like a giant exclamation mark. The visuals were incredibly trippy.
Has felt more like allergies to me since I'm feeling worse when outdoors, and considering I'm still coughing up dirt from this weekend I'm hoping it's just that too but also scheduled a test to be sure!
