Riot Fest 2021 (September 17-19, Chicago IL) Tour • Page 284

  1. Not loving the Coheed/Beach Bunny and Thursday/Mr Bungle conflicts, but otherwise I’m pretty happy. I want to see the very first band every day, which will definitely make for some long ones, but I’m so excited.

Such joy, I had like 4-5 band I actually wanted to see each day and almost all of them are playing at the same time as the other ones... Not to mention 3 of them are playing early on Friday so I will have to take a day off of work to see them

Run the Jewels / Taking Back Sunday / Dropkick Murphys / Andrew WK is rough, as is Fucked Up / Mayday Parade, but what are ya gonna do?

Schedule works pretty good for what I was hoping to see, only real issues are Body Count vs. Fever 333 and The Gories playing so early on Sunday

Thursday: Joyce Manor, Patti Smith, Alkaline Trio, maybe a little Morrissey?

Friday: Meet Me @ the Altar, Envy on the Coast, The Sounds, Circa Survive, Pinegrove, The Lawrence Arms (until 605), Motion City Sountrack, Coheed & Cambria (until 740), Beach Bunny, The Smashing Pumpkins (until 9), NOFX

Saturday: Man on Man, Just Friends, Citizen, GWAR, State Champs, Bayside (until 615), The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Fucked Up (until 730), Mayday Parade, Run the Jewels

Sunday: 3OH!3, K.Flay, Body Count (until 415), Fever 333, Thursday (until 530), Simple Plan (until 600), Devo, The Ghost Inside (until 745), The Weak Days, Machine Gun Kelly (until 9), Slipknot

I think the only bands I'm not seeing that I wanted to are Taking Back Sunday, Dropkick Murphys, and Ratboys.

Subject to checking a few more bands out ahead of time...
Italics are low-priority / potential breaks

Thursday - Might just leave after Patti Smith if we get a good dinner res or something...

Friday - MM@tA, Envy or The Sounds, Amigo the Devil, Pinegrove, Living Colour, Thrice, Sublime, Motion City, Coheed, Beach Bunny, NOFX
---> Pinegrove & Anti-Flag is a funny conflict and I'm kinda bummed but it's no contest.

Saturday - Devon Kay, Action/Adventure, The Bronx, Big Freedia, Gwar, Best Coast/State Champs/Hepcat/Ganser, Gogol Bordello, Bayside, Rancid, TBS/RTJ
---> For the headline conflict, I know I'll aim to start at one and end at the other. Can't decide which order.
---> I'll be going to Gogol Bordello's aftershow so I'll probably prioritize Bayside

Sunday - Alex G?, KennyHoopla?, Devo?, Knuckle Puck, Ratboys, Flaming Lips, NFG, Slipknot
---> I absolutely love the opportunity to show up in the laaate afternoon on Sunday.

Friday is set up perfectly for me. Sunday is full of conflicts though!

A few minority annoying conflicts. But overall, it really isn't as bad as I was thinking!

Friday: Meet Me @ the Altar, Envy on the Coast, the Sounds/Oxymorrons, Radkey, Fishbone/Jackie Hayes, Anti-Flag, first 30 of Thrice, the Lawrence Arms, last 10 of Sublime, remainder of Motion City Soundtrack, Circle Jerks/Beach Bunny, Smashing Pumpkins (and a few NOFX songs)

Saturday: Just Friends, the Bronx, Big Freedia, Four Year Strong/GWAR, Hepcat, Gogol Bordello, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid, Run the Jewels (and a Taking back Sunday song or two on the way out)

Sunday: Pet Symmetry, 3OH!3 song or two, Airstream Futures, K.Flay/KennyHoopla, Body Count, Thursday, Devo, New Found Glory, a few Slipknot songs

Wild that Simple Plan is on a different stage than NFG. It weirdly feels like Thursday was meant to go there but got switched because they wanted to see Devo or something. Hah.

The most bizarre/why do that conflict, from my perspective is K.Flay and KennyHoopla. None of the rest feel aggressively wrong/bad. But that's also my personal taste, I'm sure.

*whispers* Why can't the Rise and Radicals stages just start and end with each other instead of having 15 minute overlaps?

Works out pretty well for me most the weekend but it all goes to hell Sunday

Beach Bunny vs. Coheed kinda sucks but I'm seeing Beach Bunny tomorrow so it's an easy choice. Probably will got to most of Smashing Pumpkins then check out the end of NOFX or leave for MCS.

State Champs vs. Best Coast Saturday also isn't ideal, but probably will go to State Champs since that's where my friends will wanna go. Also not completely sure what I'm going to do for Bayside/Vic Mensa/Mighty Mighty Bosstones

I wish Devo and Flaming Lips were switched on Sunday because Devo, Knuckle Puck, Ratboys, and Simple Plan all overlapping is stressful.

I love how all the bands I want to see on Saturday are playing the Rise stage, makes it much easier

A little wishing the Redditor was right and NOFX started earlier ending just after the Pumpkins start. But I kinda always knew it was going to happen this way. Hah.

Same with the Sublime/Lawrence Arms conflict.

Any new adds or drops here? Action/Adventure and Airstream Futures are new, right?

  18. They were on recent posters, I think maybe when they announced Thursday.

For those that have been to Riot in the past, how long would you say it takes to go from stage to stage? Saturday night with RTJ, TBS, Dropkick and Andrew WK all playing at the same time puts me in a real pickle.

Friendly reminder to schedule food into your days as well, and that the food trucks are right next to the Rise Stage. Lawrence Arms, Citizen, and Bayside are this years' meal sets for me.

The furthest walk is from Rebel to Rise, which takes about 5-10 minutes depending on traffic.

This worked out incredibly well for me. Biggest loses are nofx, body count, Meg Myers, and rancid they are all up against my must sees. I hope I can enjoy The Bled without worrying to much about getting a good spot for Fever. Wish they were back to back on a stage so I could camp. But overall, very thrilled.

There is a chance I don’t go to rebel the entire weekend, haha, I’ll miss the intimate setting, but saves me the longest walks!

  23. My plan:

Thursday: Get a Ferris wheel ride in during the first two bands, then Joyce Manor, Patti Smith, Alkaline Trio, leave before Morrissey.

Friday: MM@TA, Envy On the Coast, food/check out a band I haven't heard before, Meg Myers/Radkey (game time decision), Kississippi, some of Living Colour, MCS, Coheed, food/some of Smashing Pumpkins

Saturday: Devon Kay, Action/Adventure, food/The Bronx, maybe some Citizen, Gwar? (nothing super exciting for me during this time slot), State Champs/Best Coast (game time decision), some combination of food/Gogol Bordello/Bayside/Bosstones (this is actually a rough conflict spot), Fucked Up, maybe a bit of Rancid/Mayday Parade, make my way up to Wicker Park for the Pizza Party

Sunday: Pet Symmetry, food/Alex G, Mother Mother/Health (game time decision), The Bled, Body Count, Thursday, food, Devo, maybe a bit of Knuckle Puck, The Ghost Inside, The Weak Days, Slipknot.

The biggest bummer of a conflict for me really is that Lawrence Arms/Sublime with Rome one. Larry Arms are the clear winner (especially with them having cancelled Fest) but hot damn is it a bummer haha.
