now that we are done speculating on who replaces pixies, we get to do Dino Jr. and you all already know my answer.. ETID (probably a line or 2 to high on the poster for them, but even +20 years in they are still on an upward trajectory of popularity, so i say it works in a pinch, haha) but if going for similar vibes? maybe guided by voices, bob mould, or tv on the radio?
Damn, that’s a bummer about Dinosaur Jr. They were one of my top acts. So maybe I’m not actually as bummed now that I’m missing Riot Fest… Just kidding, of course I am!
I can't even begin to guess who will take that slot. GBV or Bob Mould would be great adds, but a bit lower on the line-up. TV on the Radio would be cool too. Still wondering if we might get the Offspring as a random replacement for one of these higher-up bands. What I'm finding interesting about who is dropping not just Riot Fest or cancelling full tours is that its either bands that have to because of COVID (e.g., family member who is immunocompromised) or its bands that don't have to play shows to pay a mortgage or whatever and are feeling uneasy. And no judgement for that obviously, but I'm bringing it up because it's a definite pattern at this point. And I'm kinda thinking we'll see another band or two (or three) drop off before the festival begins (and they'll probably be in the top 2-3 lines of the poster). Man, it must be super rough booking festivals this year and staying on top of all this...
Mastodon just jumped on Rocklahoma in 2 days replacing Phil Anselmo's band in a 7pm slot before Andrew WK, Halestorm, and The Hu, so they obviously dngaf lol so they're my hope if Dino Jr. does drop
I wonder at what point they just start putting the disclaimer everywhere “Lineup may be subject to change. Purchase ticket at your own risk”
Honestly, Mastodon wouldn't be an awful Dino Jr. replacement. Not my thing, and would be a bit of a stretch but... Loud guitars are loud guitars, hah.
a dude on FB commented "There are many more drop offs and replacements were all going to learn more about on Monday. Lots happening." then was asked to name names and said this..
I feel like the biggest argument against this being legit (other than it being a random person on social media) is the fact that Monday is a US holiday, and I'd be kinda shocked if RF announced anything on a holiday. Even more so because (at least where I'm at in the US) it's a long weekend people often use for camping, which means at least part of the RF audience is going to be mostly or entirely unplugged from the internet on Monday.
thats a great hole to poke in it but plenty of people forget about holidays and he coulda just meant 'next business day after a weekend' which is usually monday, haha
Wild. Wonder if the Pumpkins are dropping? That’s the only reason I could think that “headliner-level” adds could mean
I'm wondering what this person means as far as the headliners go. I think we're safe with all the touring acts or bands playing other festivals (particularly Faith No More as they jumped in as a replacement for another festival) unless it's a legit "we have COVID" situation. Looking at the list, I think it would be any of the acts who aren't touring and it's pretty much their only show. Looking at that list, I'm feeling like the Pumpkins are an obvious one that might go. THAT would be a fucking punch in the gut for people in this thread, and the festival as a whole... The Circle Jerks are another strong possibility, I think. They have a full tour in 2022 so why not wait it out? They aren't a headliner-headliner. But it's high level. Devo is possible too. But they just posted yesterday about how they were looking forward to it. Run the Jewels is in that category as well, but I kinda feel like they'd just do it. Hah. But FWIW, they didn't post about the Riot Fest additions yesterday when a crap-ton of other acts did. And they're pretty on-point with their festival promos when you look at their twitter. As far as Chicago slack goes? If it's headliner level there's two very obvious choices that could work with minimal stage shuffling. Rise Against and Fall Out Boy. And if the Circle Jerks drop? Naked Raygun is an easy slot in. But man, I hope this person is lying... Speculation is fun and all but damn.
RTJ hasnt posted about riot specifically, but they did post how bummed they were to miss bonnaroo and have been showing off their new stage set up they debuting so they seem pretty locked in to playing live soon
Yeah, I am usually team "things are going to change, that's just how things go" but when you lose 2/3 of your top three and two of your direct support acts for those headliners... That kinda changes my thoughts on that. Hopefully they would at least offer single day refunds. I kinda get not offering refunds to 3-day pass holders because those people were (theoretically) into the weekend as a whole but still.
You know, with Dinosaur Jr. dropping, AND the possibility of Pumpkins dropping. I think FOB would actually be a more fitting replacement, and would fit the vibe more of Friday Like, FOB with bands like MCS, Larry Arms, and even Circa and Thrice makes more sense than the Pumpkins, honestly
if its the pumpkins that drop, maybe uncle Eddie swoops in to save a chicago staple? PJ have Sea Hear Now on saturday, but maybe they can be convinced to save this thing for a friday night quickie
