Does Bonnaroo getting cancelled (because of storm damage, NOT Covid) open up any possibilities for bands to wait around and jump on Riot? I haven't cross referenced anything but just thought that was possible.

That’s brutal for the Roo Crew, feel bad for all involved.

I don't think so. The two festivals have very little overlap and I don't see anybody "waiting around" to play Riot. They'll probably just accept that date as cancelled and move along.

Yeah, that is a rough one. After all the replacements, working through the COVID protocols, etc... It's the fucking weather that causes the cancellation.

Gutted for the organizers, the bands, and the fans. I would be royally bummed if that happened to Riot.

I mean White Zombie played Riot, it's not that farfetched that Rob would do it.

I’ve got a friend that drove there from DC and was only there for an hour before it cancelled. She’s having a rough go of it.

Rob Zombie doing a White Zombie album play is very different than pulling him in as a replacement for the Pixies.

It would be an incredibly weird move and I kinda gotta figure they would have gone through multiple acts who said “no” before they got to him.

Still no post. I don’t remember the last time they went a day without a post.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Rob Zombie played Riot Fest in 2016. I remember watching him while waiting for The Misfits.

Yeah, he did! And I never processed this before but... There's a huge difference in booking Rob Zombie to do an album play and have him on just before the Misfits versus just pulling him in at random to do a greatest hits-type set.

That being said? I honestly feel like Rob would be a perfect bridge between Devo and Slipknot. Haha. I'd still think it would agitate most of the NIN/Pixies fans because while the "crossover" appeal is there between those bases, I don't know that it's as present in the Riot Fest audience as people would think.

    Same!

Their last two major posts were make at 1:32 and 1:35 — but I’m in EST so really that’d be approximately 12:30 Chicago time

maybe they had a lineup/post but are consolidating with any potential bonaroo acts which is causing more delay

Norms are out the window this year, hah! 10am CST was usually the "big post" time. A bit later feels more appropriate somehow...

I can't help but feel like the silence all day yesterday is either really good or really bad. Hah. It's not just "we didn't have anything to say." It's gotta be them locking things down for real or somebody else bailed and they need to recalibrate.

Bonnaroo was meant to be this weekend. I don't think that cancellation mean acts would suddenly get added to Riot Fest which is two weeks later.

Too, if I had to guess... Riot only has like, five acts to add. And even that feels like a stretch. The Bonnaroo line-up has maybe four acts (including RTJ) that would be a decent, obvious fit for Riot Fest. I'm not anticipating anybody from Bonnaroo gets added.

I think it would be more like mid-lower tier acts that are missing out on a pay day trying to make it up a bit. Not necessarily hanging around and waiting for two weeks literally, but just trying to get a few extra bucks.

yeah I was more thinking people wanting to make up a missed show/money

Not sure I agree with that assessment. Stylistically, I think any of the following bands would work:

    - Too Many Zooz (were originally on the Big Freedia aftershow, though I think they're off now for some reason)
    - Foo Fighters (granted, they are no headliner slots left for them and they'd probably be too big even if there were)
    - RTJ (already on the lineup)
    - Deftones (please no)
    - Primus
    - Nelly(?)
    - Dashboard Confessional (also please no)
    - Orville Peck
    - Turkuaz w/ Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew performing "Remain in Light" (since we'll never get Talking Heads to do it)
    - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
    - Flogging Molly

  21. If the
Too Many Zooz dropped the whole tour w/ Big Freedia.

There are definitely more than just a couple of options from the Bonnaroo lineup, but once you filter out conflicts and artists who don't necessarily need to replace the fest paycheck, it's slim either way.

Edit - Honestly I don't think the current Riot lineup disqualifies the addition of more singer-songwriter types... Including those, maybe it's not so slim.

You could also throw Incubus in there, though they would be a repeat from a couple years back (2018?) I think Primis would be interesting. Not for me but they kinda fit in that Pixies world? Maybe? Honestly, I don't want to work right now and I'm just playing devils advocate.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Deftones cancelled all their appearances for the rest of the year, so I don’t think they’ll be added

Primus is playing Chicago 9/21. They’ll be in Ohio/Michigan Riot Fest weekend, so I also don’t think they’ll be added

Incubus would be a cool add tho

It’s getting even stranger the longer they go without posting anything on Twitter… not even an ad or anything.
