and to add, announced earlier Faith No More replaced Limp at Aftershock, so thats a good sign that they have no intention to back out of shows if they are currently adding more even though the one guy got covid. and i would die for that podcast.
That was my thought too. They could also get a stand-in for the drums if they had to. I feel like Patton is probably locked up tight until show time, hah. Wonder when the Riot announcement is going to come with the new acts. They made it sound like they had them on lock. And given how quick some of these other announcements are coming out, I would hope/imagine that we'd be getting something this week... I'm anxious to see what they pull off. Right? If I had the time I had in college now I would 100% give it a go. Hah. I think the biggest issue, though, would be getting them to say who they almost had, who bailed before announcements happened, etc. Because they don't want to burn any bridges. Either that or the usual venues doing interviews with these folks are cowards and just don't ask the right questions.
One thing I was thinking about in the recent Riot Fest release was the phrase “in the coming days” and it kind of sounded like it would be multiple announcements. But I could just be reading that wrong.
I thought the same thing. also- and I know this sentence is the bane of this forums existence- I’d imagine we’ve gotta be getting some kind of announcement tomorrow, right?
bahaha it really is the bane of this forums existence but we have to be getting album plays soon, right? If they’re even happening.
To me, "in the coming days" means a single announcement sometime within the next few days. If they had said "over the coming days" it would imply multiple announcements. That's my interpretation, anyway. But TBH, I think we're overthinking the wording. Haha. All of the announcements this year have taken place on Thursday or Friday this year. So... Entirely possible for it to be tomorrow or Friday. Fast-forward to next year when people say "Don't they usually announce on Fridays?" as if this year is the norm and not an aberration.
Based on what festivals are running into similar circumstances and their lineups/replacements, I think these guys aren't bad guesses to jump on Social Distortion Mastodon Cypress Hill The Offspring Jane's Addiction Anthrax
Not feeling strong about them slotting in Anthrax or Mastodon, given the act they'd be replacing is the Pixies. What fests have Social D or Cypress Hill jumped on as replacements?
Was going to ask what everybody's top guesses were as far as replacements are concerned! I'm going to lock mine in as: Jane's Addiction, Alkaline Trio, and the Bombpops. Jane's replacing the Pixies, the Bombpops replacing Skating Polly, and Alkaline Trio just being added. Jane's is free that weekend and arguably the same size/level as the Pixies with a similar spot in the "legacy/influential act" category. The Bombpops will be around because they're on the Bayside tour and are relatively close in size (if not a bit more popular) than Skating Polly. Alkaline Trio is playing SlamDunk at the start of September, so they'll be warmed up. I know Skiba was going to be busy with Blink, but... That's not happening. So it feels a lot more likely than it would have otherwise been. I could also see them playing Thursday, as well. Maybe an album set that night. Senses Fail, Naked Raygun, and HiHo are my alternate picks as far as who might be added.
The offspring canceled their show in Austin and corpus chrisri But are playing Houston and Dallas, playing the rest of country, being added to other festivals. What the fuck haha I was gonna go to Austin show. And the venue has anberlin like the night before. There was no explanation either.
I’ve got a feeling that some of the Sad Summer bands might be added. Would love to see The Maine, Movements, TSSF, and Grayscale added. But those are more of wants rather than what I actually think.
Not replacements, they're just on other festival lineups this fall and have played RF before, and might have a set ready.
The Maine would be great especially because they don’t have a Chicago date this year. I just looked at their dates, and they return home and play an AZ show on 9/16. Kind of doubt they would head back out to Chicago for a one off after that. :(
I'm a dummy and forgot that the Offspring are busy that entire weekend with the exception of Thursday. So no, no Offspring as a replacement. Hah. Hard pass for me on any of the Sad Summer acts. Might be convinced to watch All Time Low if nothing better was going, but the rest would be a big negative for me considering the loss of the Pixies.
I’m just sayin’… There’s no Chicago date on that Cypress Hill/Atmosphere co-headliner. I say both of those acts are up for grabs
I think this is about right, except I’d guess Less Than Jake is the band that gets added just because. and if any other bands currently on the lineup drop, I could see the rest of that Bayside tour package plus Hot Mulligan being added as further replacements.
I would fully support the addition of either. But particularly Cypress Hill. Yeah, if LTJ were to get added that would be a huge plus for my partner and I. And there's a decent shot that that happens. My only hesitation is how recently that happened. And the festival may have already been in talks with the likes of Senses Fail or the Bombpops to step in. as a back-up for somebody ("just in case").
i wonder if they pay attention to other fests announcements and avoid releasing the same day. a bunch of metal fests are announcing updated line ups and dropping schedules yesterday, today and tomorrow, so i wonder if they dont want to get lost in the shuffle and just hold back a bit. (including Blue Ridge picking up Soulfly as a replacement, which is an incredible grab, good on them!)
I mean, it's very vague. It could be anywhere between now and next Monday. Arguably even mid-week next week. So long as it doesn't extend into "weeks" it's still holding true. But yeah, a "big Friday drop" would make sense. Especially if they drop the info along with dates for schedule release, Thursday info, etc. I have no doubt they do that. At one point, I'm pretty sure Riot came right out and said they are in regular communications with Lollapalooza as far as that stuff goes. Which makes sense given their proximity geographically and date-wise. With the metal/hard rock festivals, I doubt it's that personal. But they also probably get tipped off by managers, promoters, or whoever that they work with, etc. as to when these things are happening. I also think this year is a bit more of a free-for-all than usual, though. So who knows. Riot and LTL dropped their line-ups basically the same day this year if I recall.
Would the openers of Slipknot’s upcoming tour be possible? I know Fever333 is playing, but maybe Killswitch Engage or Code Orange could get added too?
