TBH, Im afraid Devo might cancel next, as some of their members are over 70-years-old. They might want to take the extra precaution. That would make me really sad.
if we are talking similar genre that could take that placement on the poster, they may have to pull some more repeats like iggy pop, blondie or elvis costello. if they will take any genre, maybe offspring, any of those bigger metal bands like lamb of god/mastadon size. Since the clockworks were the opener for pixies and brought in as a replacement, i wonder if they are doing that with other openers on tours with riot bands: less than jake, bombpops, senses fail, etc. will be used to plug in when smaller bands bail
Pixies and NIN dropping is a huge kick in the teeth. Slipknot is cool for those that are excited, but I never got into nu-metal and they just aren't a solid replacement for NIN fans. Now with The Pixies dropping it's getting even more weak on Sunday. If I didn't have non-refundable airfare and hotel I'd probably bail on the fest.
I hope not. They are one of the few bands I’m excited to see that I haven’t already seen numerous times!
If you think Radiohead could possibly play in a year where they have not been active whatsoever and when their last festival appearance here was headlining the biggest festival in the city to more people than Riot Fest can hold, I have some bad news to tell you.
This is such a fucking brutal bummer. My partner is going to be bummed... Seconding folks saying that Devo might cancel as well, unfortunately. I think it's important to note that this is bands choosing to cancel. And reading between the lines of the Pixies cancellation, it's just as much for themselves and their crew as the general public. I'm sure we'll see a few more, which is definitely disappointing. But I don't think it means the festival will cancel unless like, the Pumpkins opt to cancel and a few of the other big acts. Festivals usually have a list of replacements, and for every band that cancels there's a list of other bands probably aching to get on the bill when you get beyond the main headliner each day (which has a much smaller pool). Curious to see who they get to replace.
Man, I wish Mark's circumstances were different (for multiple reasons), but... It would have been a hilarious twist for Blink-182 to replace one of these headliners.
Speaking of Blink, I really hope they play a tour with Tom soon. After Mark's going thorugh this, they must realize they have to play together before its too late.
Iggy Pop, Blondie, etc. are good ideas for replacements but part of me is also wondering if those acts might be laying low this year as well? They are in relatively high-risk categories based on age. But the "Simple Plan rule" would apply here, in that it's easier (and probably safer) to fly in for a single festival date rather than going on a full blown tour. Personally, my #1 pick for a replacement of a similar ilk would be the Go-Gos. That would be an upgrade for me, TBH. Simply because I've never seen them before and I really want to. Looking beyond that? The Descendents, Fall Out Boy, the Offspring, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Weezer would all make me happy. I know we said Rise Against is unlikely. But Sunday being sold out might change their ability to add them. I dunno.
Wondering if we'll hear anything from them today or if there'll just be a weekly Friday COVID Lineup Update from here till the fest.
