I'm not a fan of this "photocopy or digital photo" stuff. Way too easy for people to forge them that way.
It would be easier not to have to do it that way if they gave them out in a wallet size which I still don't understand. I already lost mine and had to get a replacement
Agreed, but there needs to be a better system. Vax only doesn't mean anything if you can just photoshop it. The whole system sucks and there really is not a good way to do this.
I assume that the cancellation of Skating Polly's September tour applies to Riot Fest as well. Suspect that we'll see more cancellations in upcoming weeks.
Just listened to a podcast with Neil Hennesy and he mentions that Morriseys "second favorite band" is the Smoking Popes So I would probably lock them in for Thursday
I legitimately can’t believe he actually loves them. Not as in “they’re not a likeable band” type way, but I wouldn’t expect Morrissey to be fond of a 90’s-era punk band Turns out Born To Quit is one of his all-time favorite albums. Who knew? http://www.nme.com/news/morrissey/52476
Soooo Josh from The Smoking Popes is opening for The Psychedelic Furs at the Vic the day of the Preview Party. What are the chances that gets cancelled and both end up at the Preview Party? Cause those two bands are strong contenders for that day. Lets not forgot in 2017 At The Drive In cancelled their Chicago show to join the lineup so I guess it’s possible? This is all shooting from the hip but you never know.
Japanese Breakfast is already playing a show in Chicago that night, but is there a possible chance she could be added to the lineup too? She could play a quick set at Riot and then go over to Thalia for her show that night
Not gonna lie. The Psychedelic Furs and Smoking Popes would make it worth it for me. Now I’m stoked again. But I dunno. Wasn’t the ATDI show way far out? It would be a weird move cancelling… Unless ticket sales aren’t great anyway. Then it would make a ton of sense. Also kinda wondering why it was Josh solo and not the Popes themselves opening? Wonder if there’s other commitments? That’s my one hesitation. And of COURSE Morrissey loves the Popes. Josh songs like him and Morrissey loves himself. Therefore…
The At The Drive In show was in June on Father’s Day going against Metallica at Soldier Field so I’m sure the ticket sales were terrible. Anyways I have no idea! Just hope it’s worth it.
I mean, the Psychedelic Furs playing 1k capacity venue seems pretty on par with what they've been doing the last few years or so. In my city, at least. Ticket sales might be "fine," and on paper I could see them bailing for a festival gig with Morrissey but... The fact that it's legit on the very same night gives me a bit of pause. That would just be an odd move/tricky one to explain to their fans. Only way I could see it happening is if those ticket holders got into the Preview Party too... Otherwise it would just be a straight-up middle finger to fans. That being said, I could totally see Josh bailing to do a show with the Popes instead.
Kind of off-topic, but this weekend there was a hip hop festival at Douglass Park and it seems it was a shit show. https://www.facebook.com/100003576194229/posts/3969160823213085/?d=n https://www.reddit.com/r/Lollapalooza/comments/p9m21e/lyrical_lemonades_summer_smash_is_a_mess/
I was just coming here to post that. Fuck Cole Bennett and the trash Lyrical Lemonade team for allowing this shit show to occur. Also apparently that festival got rained out yesterday and a bunch of people were all congregating near Mount Sinai hospital and overcrowding the area (of a freaking hospital). The people who attend Riot Fest are mostly civilized folks, and I genuinely do believe that for the most part the neighbors don’t mind a bunch of people coming to their area for Riot, but when there are festivals there that are a mess and crowds that are not respectful, it very likely pisses off the neighbors/locals and potentially risks Riot Fest’s ability to be held at Douglass Park.
This. I remember there was a post from a news outlet saying some neighbours arent that happy with Riot (Blocking Neighbors From Douglass Park for Riot Fest a ‘Slap in the Face,’ Some Say) and after this, they will have more reasons to not wanting festivals in the park. Really hope this doesn't affect Riot in future years.
That's gross and a total bummer! In my experience at Riot Fest, and in fact festivals in general, I've never seen anything remotely close to that happening. Super disappointing, especially considering the current climate. In the past, has the focus been on Riot Fest, or just larger festivals in general?
I’m starting to think we aren’t really getting any other album plays. Or at least not nearly as many as usual.
Unfortunately, that's at least 3 artists since Thursday - Nine Inch Nails, Pixies, and Skating Polly that have cancelled. There will undoubtedly be more cancellations. Riot Fest only has so much flexibility to add new artists and adjust to the changing situation. I'm starting to worry whether the festival even happens.
