Yeah and how much "curation" he's going to do. Psychedelic Furs are playing that night at the Metro.... btw, is anyone on the market for a PF ticket now?
Slipknot will be cool but Morrissey just reinforces that Riot Fest still has a ways to go in terms of just...not getting it right. Machine Gun Kelly's issues (his gross past tweets and interviews) are from years ago and never gained much traction (which isn't an excuse, just saying this for context) whereas Morrissey's words and actions are very recent and gained a lot of attention. Like, Riot Fest has to be aware of the things Morrissey has said and done yet still went ahead and booked him. Obviously everyone's comfort level playing shows is different but I can't imagine Morrissey was the only one available. The Strokes? Fall Out Boy? The Killers? Hayley Williams? (Seriously, having Hayley Williams curate the Thursday lineup and headline would have been dope) It's just disappointing that Morrissey was the one chosen.
My guess is they'll just fly in for that one. I feel like it's an exception, compared to touring for 6-7 weeks.
I just realized Slipknot are playing Tinley like 10 days after Riot fest now which is whack, but I'm guessing Riot Fest folks realize most Chicagoans don't travel to Tinley Park shows lol
You said exactly what I feel about Riot Fest and have for some time. Have always struggled to book an adequate number of acts with women and minorities outside of the staples. Are extremely tone deaf when it comes to booking Moz - AGAIN. MGK being who he is. They are tone deaf beyond belief but maybe my opinions are outside the typical Riot Fest attendee. I think many large acts are considering dropping from their touring plans or are looking to fulfill contracts and get through this. Smaller acts can’t cancel as they need the money. But of those you listed? Seems like the first two are looking to get through their agreements, The Killers are smartly pushing out to 2022, and I don’t have an opinion one way or the other with Hayley because I don’t know her touring plans.
So it sounds like Simple Plan will still be playing Riot Fest but Less Than Jake will now be replacing them at the aftershow at Radius.
I'm genuinely fascinated to see who Morrissey will curate the undercard with because that's a bit out of Riot Fest's lane and opens up a lot of bands (post-punk/indie) that'd be great to see, but fuck him as a person and Riot probably shouldn't have gone with him at all. Ugh. Slipknot is cool though.
tinley draws just fine for a lot of their shows so saying people that live in the city don't go there isn't very true so... if tinley is the only local date and people dont want to go to indy or detroit or milwaukee for shows im sure they have zero problems going to tinley
I'm curious who Morrissey will curate the Thursday lineup with too, honestly. The reason I suggested Hayley Williams as being a good choice over Moz (aside from that she's great) is that you know she would curate a lienup filled with women, LGBTQ+, and more diverse acts and it would just make the festival...better. Like @bradpetrik mentioned this festival DOES have an issue with booking in the women/LGBTQ+/diversity sections, which is a bummer, and Hayley probably would have helped with that. Moz just makes the festival worse because he sucks as a person and a lot of people have turned on him and I don't think he will curate a lineup that would make the festival "better"/"more diverse".
Fun Fact: Anyone remember a few years back when Morrissey cancelled a show because the on-stage heater wasn’t working and it was too cold for him to perform? I was at that show That was not a good time
i had thought they actually did well with diversity this year, albeit most of the women are on the undercard, but still a ton on there, same with POC's (and i cant speak to the lgbtq+ as i dont know who identifies as what).. but this morrisey booking, holy shit, so tone def and just bad
Yeah I was gonna say, when I was going band by band and making my own playlist, I was very pleased with the amount of diversity across each day.
I hope Pulp, Placebo, and Liam Gallagher replace Moz when he cancels because of his diaper rash or whatever.
This has been a rollercoaster of emotions. NIN was my most anticipated set and I was strongly considering selling/refunding my ticket. But Slipknot?! They've been a bucket list band for 20 years for me! Thankfully I've seen NIN before. I'm fucking pumped now! Morrissey has me with mixed emotions. I use to love him, but hes been such a fucking piece of shit lately. I even tried ignoring most of his crap and saw him live in 2018, but he's gotten so much worse since then. Can't decide if I skip his show or not.
