Give me Alien Ant Farm. I was pretty excited for the Eve 6/AAF tour that got cancelled because of covid a
Saw Kissisippi tonight in Chicago and they killed it, for anyone considering catching them at Riot. I highly recommend.
Would love to see Riot Fest book Third Eye Blind, Ben Folds Five, Goo Goo Dolls, and/or Gin Blossoms.
Damn, we’re a month out starting tomorrow! That’s insane! Maybe this coming week is when we’ll see more announcements? Hope so…
To be honest, the fact that it's a month out has been totally lost on me until just now. For some reason, that hadn't connected with me yet. But that's awesome! So we're what? Maybe 1.5 weeks out from the map? And maybe two weeks out from the schedule? Album plays have to be coming first. This week or next. At this point, I'm not banking on any more aftershow announcements... So I'm really hoping those of us get an e-mail with hints and more info about Thursday at some point! I don't see them making an announcement via socials because of how confusing that could get.
Also: Anybody else checking out some recent set lists for bands playing? Had a look at them for the Dropkick Murphys and Rancid tour. The two band's setlist had the exact opposite reaction. DKM had me saying "Nah, I'm good" while Rancid had me getting exceptionally amped up. I just hope Rancid keeps the two LWW songs they've added to the set list. If I get to see them perform "Hooligans," it will probably wind up being the highlight of the festival for me.
Why does DKM feel the need to always have a majority of their set be from their newest album. If they actually played normal greatest hits sets they would be so much more fun to see.
If I had to predict: Album plays early this week and more aftershow announcements (early week of 9/16) On-sale for new aftershows this Friday (9/20) Map reveal and list of food vendors (week of 9/23) E-mail with hints about Thursday to ticket holders (week of 8/30) Schedule (Thursday or Friday; 9/2 or 9/3) This assumes more aftershows. The web site still says there's more on the way... But I'm not so sure, given where things are was WRT COVID. I'm also assuming that ticket holders get an e-mail with hints about Thursday rather than a full-blown anouncement on the socials. TBH, they have to send something out to all of us anyway to tell us what time doors/start are. And I'd imagine they will be sharing a bit more info about what stages things will be on, what will or will not be open, etc.
just went to rancid/DKM last night and dropkick almost feels like stadium punk at this point. the new songs are fine, they have their charm, but are sorta generic, and dont have much bite to them. I still cant deny that when i hear the classics i went bonkers,, including bring out Lars and Tim to do Bar Room Hero at the end was a sight to see. Rancid just straight up killed it. The guy from the Bronx repeatedly said he was really sad he couldnt go out into the pit like he normally would, haha.
Was their setlist still almost completely from their new album? I just can’t understand how anyone thought that was a good idea. It really makes me wish that Riot Fest would have gotten them to play Sing Loud Sing Proud for the 20th anniversary. Unfortunately, it seems like the only album they want to play in full though is their newest one.
They switched it up a bit after the first date. But it still skews far too heavy on the "new material" than I would prefer. I understand wanting to play new stuff. And I don't expect a set full of stuff 2003 and earlier... But it's skewed so far in the other direction that it's not very pleasant for me. Hah. Although, I enjoy the new record far more than most of what they've released this decade. I just wish it was all a bit more balanced. But the crowd seems to go equally nuts for the newer shit, so what do I know?
Potential album play? I'd be stoked about roughly 50% of this album. My partner will be less than stoked, I think. Though it's brief enough that they could potentially play a few other songs after the record play was over.
Well y’all, I have good news and bad news: Bad News: Turns out I’m not going to Riot Fest anymore :/ Good News: I now have four 3-Day Passes for sale, if anyone or their friend(s) are lookin’ for one
Yeah everything’s fine! Thanks for asking. Decision wasn’t really mine but it is what it is. Guess this year wasn’t meant to be
Some industrious soul in a Riot Fest FB group I'm part of e-mailed yesterday asking about start time, doors, etc. for the Thursday Preview Party and got a response. "More information on the Preview Party will be released soon. We think gates will open around 4pm, but stay tuned for exact details!" So there's definitely more info coming. But Riot Fest's definition of "soon" is notoriously broad so... Who knows.
