This is actually a fantastic point and one that, in my anxiety reaction just now didn't even consider. And I was just talking with one of my HCP friends about this last night. He was saying that hospitalizations are the key factor to consider rather than cases.

But I do think that the concern is the people who aren't vaccinated. There's certainly enough of those folks for the hospitalizations to eventually become an issue, I think...

What's troubling is that you can see the patterns. When vaccines were on the uptick and things were till relatively closed, you saw a steady decrease in cases. When things opened up and vaccines slowed down? You saw an uptick and the majority of people testing positive were unvaccinated... And the unvaccinated are the ones most likely to be hit with serious illness and need hospitalization.

That being said, I do think the festival should be vaccinated only or proof of negative vaccination within 24 hours.

Yeah, I'm really hoping they put that into effect following Lolla.

Just took a peek and I'm pretty sure that person is joking/trolling given the context in their post about time travel. Haha. Unless you're referring to a different post...

I was just talking to an industry friend about this. The problem apparently is that any festival/show that had tickets go on sale prior to Covid are not allowed to add vaccine/negative test restrictions, because people were able to buy tickets before any rules were put in place. And you can’t add restrictions once the sale has been finalized. AND because of this, all the tours that were rescheduled from 2020 have much higher insurance costs. That’s why tours like MCR and RATM got postponed again even though new tours were getting announced daily. It’s also why when you go on Ticketmaster and go to a show page for a new tour like Julien Baker, you’ll get a warning note pop up saying this show may be subject by Covid restrictions, but if you go to an older announced tour date like Hella Mega, nothing pops up.

so unfortunately that’s why Riot won’t be able to require proof of vaccine or negative test within 24 hours. If things get bad by then, they’ll have to just postpone again.

I'm not so sure that I buy this. I've seen two different venues now announce new vaccine/testing requirements, stating that you can get a refund in advance if you'd like given the restriction -- and that if you buy a ticket and show up without proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test? You won't be let in.

I think I get what your friend is saying, but I doubt anything is stopping promoters from saying "Nah, we're changing the rules. You can get a refund if you don't want to go." Changing the rules across the board like that, for a full tour, would probably be a huge pain in the ass. Just because of all the ticketing outlets, local rules, etc.

It's a bit more manageable for a single festival or venue. Still a pain... But for Riot Fest, I feel like it would be about the same level of annoyance that the other refunds were. Maybe even less because they have a system set-up. And it would lead to further unsold tickets which they don't really want, I'm sure. So who knows what direction they take.

But FWIW... The Event Brite ticketing web site also has a disclaimer on it: "Entry may be subject to vaccination, testing, masking, or social distancing requirements."

This seems suuuper whack. Could they get away with offering a refund or something? I could be wrong but I'm almost certain Lolla is allowing refunds if you can't make it due to their restrictions, like if you test positive and aren't able to attend. That seems extremely reasonable.

Edit: Help. I bought a ticket and I tested positive for COVID at the 72 hour pre-test. Can I get a refund?

I'm certain they could change the terms and offer refunds. Which Riot Fest can do with a bit of heartburn.

But doing that for the My Chemical Romance world tour or the US Rage tour would be extremely challenging given the magnitude and differences between locales.

Unrelated to any of the Covid talk but my fiance and I got engaged 2 years ago Riot Fest weekend (traveled from PA, have gone each year since 2016!) and since we cancelled our wedding this year we're getting married while we're here for Riot this year! No ceremony or anything. Just a courthouse thing since we didnt have the wedding we felt it was best to do something with only us that felt special.

  19. Love this, congratulations!

And just a heads up, if you'll be with friends/family for this, in Illinois you can do the courthouse thing anywhere you want as long as someone gets ordained online to sign as your officiant :)

Riot Fest Premiere: Catbite's "Excuse Me Miss" is The Perfect Roller-Ska Song for Summer

Wanted to call this post out because this is the band I kept saying I would love to see open up the "ska" stage that looked like we were going to see. Glad to see Riot Fest getting the memo and hyping them too!

They've released three singles so far from the new album and they're all straight-up bangers. Here's hoping they wind up on the bill next year!

Yes BUT Lolla was announced and put on sale after Covid began, and the restriction warning was there when they put tickets on sale. If they put it on notice at the time you were buying tickets that you need a vaccine or negative test, then that definitely turned away plenty of people who knew they would always refuse getting a vaccine. The refund policy is in place for anyone who tests positive within 72 hours, or in the now unlikely scenario that vaccine appointments were too backed up and they couldnt get one in time.

I dunno it's a complicated situation. Probably much more difficult for a tour that hits 20 different venues than a festival that is just at one. All I know, without giving away who my friend is or what they do, is that they have a couple of artists who just had to cancel pretty large tours that were set to begin in August/September because of these reasons. Any tour that was rescheduled from 2020 that as of this past month was cancelled/postponed for "unforeseen circumstances," this is that reason.
