I still think Alkaline Trio is in play and also Rise Against

With RA playing a couple weeks before in Chicago it would be more of a treat to those who could see them rather than alienating a bunch of people mad they can't. If that makes sense

 

I think Rise would also be a fine choice since they’re a “bigger” band, it’s sort of like a “yeah, we made it through this dumb pandemic, here’s a cool, big band” treat

For sure. There's also technically no tickets available to the preview party at the moment... So it's not like having them on would be an issue. If that makes sense.

Or even if they just saved them as a mystery band and didn't announce them until after the Chicago show.

Real curious to see what they announce, when they announce it, etc. for that thing!

Doesn't Billy Corgan have like a side project or previous band or something? I don't listen to them much so I don't know for certain. Maybe they are playing the Thursday show.

Someone mentioned that 3 of 5 members of Zwan will be at Riot already (Billy and Jimmy from Smashing Pumpkins and Paz from Pixies), so maybe?

EDIT: Paz is playing with Pixies on Thursday in Nebraska, so I would say no

 

This has been brought up, and I doubt this is the case. Billy has made it specifically clear in interviews that he has ill feelings towards members of that group. Obviously not Jimmy, but everyone else he just doesn’t like. So I don’t think they’ll ever be a thing again

 

Billy has made a lot of comments in the past about hating that lineup in Zwan (except for Jimmy obviously) and never having intentions of reuniting. But then recently Zwan made an instagram, and it has it's members listed as Billy, Jimmy and Billy's wife. So it's possible they resurrect the name, with new members. I'd love it, that album was amazing.

 

That'd be interesting if true… Although, a ZWAN reunion/reboot would I think garner a similar reaction to a Boxcar Racer reunion. A few die-hard SP fans would probably be stoked, but I’m not sure if a lot of other people would tune in to that sort of thing

 

Thursday and taking back Sunday are official sold out

 

SP has a pretty die hard fanbase, so if Zwan announced a one off reunion I could see a lot of people traveling for it, and maybe doing like a 5k room. I just don’t see it happening at Riot Fest.

 

Oh yeah. They could probably pull a sold out snow or two at a large-ish theater somewhere in Chicago. Maybe in LA and NY too

 

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the Riot Fest web site currently lists 4:00pm as the start time for the Thursday Preview Party! I'm guessing that's probably doors rather than start time but... 4pm doors with first band going on at 4:30 would be pretty tight.

Maybe we're getting closer to more info...

interesting, chicago must be a good market for them cuz the st. louis date is somewhere much smaller than a HOB.

What's wrong with the HOB?

 

I've never liked the lay out at all, I don't like where it is in the city, everything seems more expensive and getting in and out is a pain in the butt. Or I'm just telling myself these things to convince myself not to buy tickets to ANOTHER show haha

 

House of Blues is cool if you get there early and get on the floor or a spot along the side railings by the bar, but it's so easy to get stuck in an overpacked area with terrible sightlines

Can't think of anything I hate more concert-wise than being at a sold out show at the HOB in Chicago.
