To everyone who told me artists who don’t play riot fest don’t headline aftershows: I’ll see you at Too Many Zooz
I don't think I said "headline" necessarily. I just said that it's very rare that a band not playing the festival will wind up headlining an after show. And I stand by that. It's happened like, 3-4 times since they started doing the aftershows. And when it does? It's an artist who has a history with the festival... In this case? Big Freedia is on the bill who is touring with Too Many Zoos and playing Riot. So this makes perfect sense and lines up with the norm.
Suddenly I'm thrilled that my wife and I passed on Too Many Zooz & Big Freedia on a weeknight in NY! That said, I agree these are on the underwhelming side. The group I'm travelling with all agreed -- as ~30yo Long Islanders, we've had more than our fill of those Sunday offerings.
Both Alkaline Trio and Angels & Airwaves announcements today have taken my money away from any of these aftershows haha
damn, thursday @ Cobra is 40 bucks pre-fee. thats a spicy meatball, especially without announcing an opener.
That's expensive! I'm guessing a bunch of venues (in general; not just for after shows at Riot) are padding ticket prices this year... Hopefully that only lasts until they "get back on their feet" and then they drop, but I have a feeling they won't drop them back down if people are consistently willing to pay it. EDIT: Also? Pretty sure that's what I'll be paying for Bad Religion/Alkaline Trio tickets in a few minutes so yeah, $40 is expensive without an opener. Haha.
I feel like aftershows are usually pricier though. I think I paid the same last time for Cock Sparrer at Reggie’s.
Good point. The only show I have a receipt for that I can find is the Queers/the Ataris from 2018 and it was only $16 plus fees so that's not a good arbiter. Haha.
Bouncing Souls/Sincere Engineer at Cobra was $25. The rest from that year look to be $20-25 except for Face to Face which was inexplicably $30-35.
I don't remember the exact price, but I paid like $20-$25 for Cap'n Jazz, State Champs and Pvris, in '17, '18 and '19, all in Bottom Lounge Taking Back Sunday with The Get up Kids at Concord was like $40 in 2019 tho
Thanks! I've been listening to him a lot lately and I would totally catch his set at Riot and now this show too
Picked up tickets to that Bad Religion/Alkaline Trio co-headliner and Punk in Drublic today. Feels good! Going to be a busy couple of weeks with a trip to Chicago and the Punk in Drublic Festival back home!
Definitely feels good to buy tickets again. I’ve spent about $400 in the last two weeks on shows. I need a break before anything else gets announced haha
I definitely have ticket buying fatigue haha I'm on the fence about buying a ticket to TFB/Oso Oso show because I've bought tickets to 8 shows in the last couple weeks, not counting RF '21 & '22. This fall is going to wreck me.
