Unfortunately I can't go anymore, but if I was going Saturday like I'd planned I'd pick The Sounds out of those. TBS at Metro would be a lot of fun too.
TBH, I'm finding the list so far to be a little underwhelming for my current situation. I doubt my partner will be down to stay out late for a Thursday show (just not her thing) and that Bayside show starts way too early... Hoping the next batch have something a bit more to my liking. Let's gooooo Larry Arms!
Was Too Many Zooz on the fest at one point, or did I invent that because I knew they were touring with Big Freedia?
Meh. Gonna be honest none of those aftershows are that exciting. Hopefully round 2 gives us better ones.
When I think of aftershows, I think of a band playing a venue too small for their size. A lot of these aftershows are bands playing venues they would play here on tour anyways.
Yeah which is why Thursday is the only one that stands out to me (though I'm admittedly not familiar with how big The Sounds are so I won't comment there).
The only one that stands out as particularly "small" for the band is Dinosaur Jr. But not by much, and I might be a little biased given that I'm from their region where they always draw... I feel like Reggie's is an appropriate size for the Sounds to be playing.
Saw Thursday at the Double Door at the aftershow a few years ago, seeing TBS twice in a week (Riot and Furnace Fest) so the only one I'm really interested in here the Bayside show but it's on a Sunday... I have a feeling I will skip this year's aftershows since the first wave has like 80% of the stuff I wanted to see at Riot this year anyway.
Y'know, I might get a ticket to Taking Back Sunday if the rest of the aftershows they announce aren't really my thing. But I'm hopeful for something more enticing... Think that one will sell out immediately?
Some of those shows look fun, but I think I’ll pass. I can already tell I’ll be super exhausted after a long festival day lol But yeah, these aftershows just look like normal Chicago tour dates to tours already happening. The NFG/SP show, the full Bayside tour… Hell, even the Dinosaur Jr. show has the opener that’s already opening the entire tour
I mean, if that Bayside show weren't starting at 9? I'd be in on that. But Sunday night has the Pixies, Devo, and New Found Glory who are likely to be playing around that time. I don't see myself leaving the festival early and missing any of those acts plus NIN to see that tour.
Bayside aftershow is most appealing but starts too early, and also the last time I did a Sunday after show (TBS @ bottom lounge) I was literally falling asleep in the back or the venue. New Found Glory and Simple Plan would be kind of fun but I think I’d rather wait and see what the pizza party looks like assuming it’s happening
Dude. Same! It seemed like a great idea at the time. I had a great time while I was there, but wound up leaving about half way through their set because of how zonked I was.
Haha ya I was sitting on the floor against the back wall nodding off between my favorite songs. Still glad I went because I finally got to see them play Everything Must Go, but I learned a lesson about Sunday after shows. I have to really really care to make it worth it
Completely! By contrast, in 2018 when I saw the Bouncing Souls on Sunday night at a late night show? I stayed the entire time. The Souls are my favorite band of all-time and I've seen them countless times but... The energy was just very different on that one.
Ya exactly! I had no problem keeping the energy alive for every one of the 36 songs Motion City played until 3am for their """final""" show lol
