I suspect we'll be getting a "greatest" hits set with newer stuff peppered in (pretty much on par with what they've been doing the last few years). TBH, as I've never seen them? That would be ideal for me. Especially if I can track what songs will be coming up next based on past set lists. Haha. That way, I can pop over to see another band or whatever during a lull in the set.
The actual tour poster has them the 18th and they have shows the 15th and 17th in Michigan and Minnesota respectively
The poster has those dates, but the web site specifically has Thursday, 9/16 and Saturday, 9/18 listed as Riot Fest.
We’ve seen Thursday listed on band’s websites as a placeholder before though (see figure 7, the 2 million people on Reddit who wouldn’t believe that Boston manor were really off the lineup because “their website says they’re playing Thursday! They must be the secret surprise band!”)
This makes sense in most cases, where it's just the one day listed. Particularly before the daily line-ups were out and bands have a tendency to just throw Friday (or in this case, Thursday) out there because it's the first day of the festival. My Sublime with Rome theory/thinking could be explained by that if they somehow got the message that the festival started on Thursday. But the initial Bayside poster had two Riot Fest dates listed (one of which is now gone from the poster). And it would have to be a pretty deliberate move to put in two individual Riot Fest dates up on that web site (Thursday lists no other bands and has a start time of 7pm; Saturday lists the bigger bands playing that same day with a start time of 11am). Maybe it's just an after show and they mucked up the date. Maybe it's a Riot Fest presents after show that they're putting on Thursday night... But there's way more evidence that they could be playing Thursday now than any other band we've seen thus far, IMHO.
Start the 2022 speculation already? This lineup is basically the Riot of the West Coast and shows who will be active in 2022.
Was gonna say... I'm surprised to see Morrissey booked on any festivals stateside given his current reputation. But I'm not familiar with what happened the last time he played Riot. What went down?
There were his normal demands about no meat being cooked while he was playing, but then he allegedly requested every trash can in the park be emptied before he played so there'd be literally no cooked meat anywhere. Then he was late to stage because, as the story goes, he didn't like that security were wearing blue shirts and refused to go on until they all changed their shirt color to black.
Sweet fuck. I had heard he forewent the whole "no meat" thing for that festival appearance... Yeah, that's obnoxious. He's the worst. May he never set foot on a Riot Fest stage ever again.
I'm always skeptical of fests in May being a good indicator of what's going to happen in the fall, especially with acts outside of North America. But I'd love to see Blondie, the Damned, and/or the Violent Femmes on the line-up again! It would also be nice to see the Psychedelic Furs and the English Beat finally make an appearance.
Fwiw: I couldn’t help but notice that Santeria by Sublime is on the official Riot Fest playlist, as opposed to just about ANY original SWR song. Maybe that could be a subtle hint of a Sublime S/T album play? Or maybe not. What do I know
As far as the Bayside tour, Chicago is pretty close to being in the middle of where they are on Wednesday and Friday. But then again the routing for the whole Midwestern section of that tour makes no sense to me.
Are people just forgetting that Morrissey is a fucking xenophobic racist? Why is he still being booked in the US and who is actually attending these shows?
living in St. Louis, Im getting announcements for all of the 'riotfest runoff' shows happening within a day or 2 of the fest from a bunch of acts. just today, all separate show- pixies, amigo the devil, living colour, bayside, & ratboys - shame i cant go to any of them (except that sweet ass living colour/hoobastank tour, lol)
Random thought- what about Bright Eyes for Thursday? They hadn’t played a show in almost 10 years until now, have a small run of east coast dates this summer, and nothing in the Midwest yet.
in my opinion bright eyes is both to niche and not 'rocking' enough for something like this. i think they will aim for someone who can appeal to the most amount of people that Riot brings in. i think somewhere in the the rise against / alkaline trio / taking back sunday in terms of size and genre is what we will be looking at. but i also dont know shit
