I mean, Simple Plan's tour with NFG will already have gone underway. PUP doesn't really have a tour, they were just going to pop over to play Riot. I'm so glad I'm just doing Saturday now, PUP would've been one of 4 bands I wanted to see on Friday.
Yeah, I was curious if Pup was gonna do a tour of some sort around Riot. But if they dropped, then I guess not :(
Am I reading too much in to the fact that Fucked Up doesn't have any shows listed on their website? REALLY hope they don't drop off. Shows … Fucked Up
They only promoted the lineup on their social media when the 2nd wave of announcements dropped, but not the 3rd wave... No mention of it on their Instagram either And now that I look at it, it doesn’t look like Pup posted ANYTHING about Riot Fest on any social media. Weird...
Being from Canada and doing a full US tour is different than being from Canada and coming in for one show
From being very excited about seeing pup at cobra to not having them on the lineup in the same 12 hours :(
Riot has a habit of doing that, but it's usually not a band I care about. As a person who really doesn't care about Envy on the Coast who was looking forward to seeing Pup... This is a major bummer. Especially considering they were my partner's #1 must-see for the weekend.
i know nothing about the folks in the band pup, but my buddy who is a big fan posted this as a possible theory as to why they dropped off "Purely conjecture, but looking at Stefan Babcock's twitter and recent interviews, it doesn't bode well for PUP as a band. He disses the band, calls it destructive, says he hates it, and lots of posts about mental health. and a less tense explanation could be he also has a history of throat problems"
His Twitter feed feels like more of the same from him, TBH. He's sarcastic and self-deprecating. And the interview about the band being "destructive" says that they feel super lucky to be in the situation that they're in and motivated by it... I think it's just him venting. And the cancellation is more having to do with COVID, and maybe not being able to map out other dates surrounding Riot, than anything.
Iirc, he has some sort of thing in his throat (I wanna say it’s a polyp? But that doesn’t seem right/too severe) that kinda screws with his voice. Basically his doctor told him to tone it down with his singing, but he kinda shrugged it off and said “fuck it.” And he’s just putting up with it until it gets too bad for him. At least that’s what my gf told me. I might be misremembering details and I’m too lazy to research it lol But wow, I really hope this isn’t the end of Pup. They’re at their peak too. It’s just like MoBo...
Compared to their previous lineups, it must be a fucking chore to book bands with so many festivals in Sept & October Also, 3 years ago Alice Cooper was playing casinos in the back ass of nowhere and now he's co-headlining festivals... the fuck
I’d go to Sunday just for the top 3 alone Also, I thought Alice Cooper was still pretty big/relevant. Or I dunno... I’m not really in tune with that genre of music
That's a huge bummer to hear about Pup. Gotta wonder if Pup was the "????" on the Four Chords lineup and they're looking for a replacement now.
If anything that makes them more feasible for a stripped down pre-party performance. Also kind of annoyed that the Menzingers are on that instead of Riot. Would have been a great/fine replacement for Pup, TBH.
I just looked it up and you’re def right. As a west-coaster, I always forget how closer all the states are to each other on the east coast, LOL
I mean. State Champs, Mayday Parade, Four Year Strong, Bearings, and Just Friends are all on Riot. Others will be making the drive in the opposite direction. Haha.
Yeah Chicago to Pittsburg is anywhere from 6 and a half hours to like 8 hours depending on the route you take
