The text format on the official site bills Misfits over MCR for 2022 - https://riotfest.org/chicago/lineup/ An MCR reunion seems like a clear-cut #1 name for Riot Fest. So it's pretty wild they added another top name above them with 16 months still to go before the festival. And I can only imagine the egos involved in those billing discussions.
MCR is surely bigger than the Misfits, no? The Misfits last show here was at Allstate Arena. MCR is playing way bigger venues than that.
Most definitely especially considering how quick they sold out every date of the reunion tour and fans will have waited 3 years by the time they finally tour.
Misfits probably wanted #1 billing as a condition of playing. MCR probably didn't fight them on that because of their reverence for them. It's not a Coachella situation.
At most it should be headliner 1 and headliner 1a. Very generous on MCR’s part, if it turns out they really are billed behind the misfits.
Maybe the Misfits demanded the Saturday spot? MCR is going to draw regardless so maybe they conceded to being on Friday. Although, I *do* think MCR on Saturday would be the best fit because having the prime band on the prime day would maximize the draw to its highest potential.
I mean if you scroll down to the text only format, past the posters - RIOT FEST 2022 LINEUP: THE ORIGINAL MISFITS (performing Walk Among Us), MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????,???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????, ???????????????
The Allstate Arena is smaller than the venues they are playing elsewhere. It holds about 11,000 people, which is about 9,000 less than TD Garden, Xcel Energy Center, 8,500 less than Wells Fargo, etc. It's not an NBA arena like the other venues are.
they are playing nhl/nba arenas. the united center holds up to 23500 for concerts allstate is up to 18500. td garden 20k for concerts excel energy center stage end for concerts is 12k center stage is 20 k
The Friday/Saturday specification seems like a diplomatic way to list MCR first but still allow Misfits to be the "true" #1 name.
I wouldn't read too much into this. Especially since the days both bands will be playing have been released. Which kinda makes the "billing" bit null and void. They are both headlining their respective days. And when the poster gets released? It'll have them set-up that way. The text on the web site isn't all that important in this context. EDIT: But I think everyone is right. The Misfits wanted #1 and MCR probably said "Whatever. we still get paid the same, right?"
United Center is massive though. 18,500 is closer to a standard arena capacity IMO. It just doesn't seem like *that much* of a difference to make a comparison in terms of which band is more popular when they're both still playing arenas. If we were comparing Allstate and the Aragon, yeah...
Since the “obscure mosh captain” was brought up, I just need to vent a little about how annoyed I am that Reddit thinks that Riot Fest booked Devo as some kind of meme. Do they also think that Punk Rock Bowling has had them headline twice for the lols? The whole thing just irritates me. But seeing (some of) Reddit’s reaction to yesterday’s news compared to my own reaction explains a lot to me.
