I feel like they never bother to say Douglas Park at first which is what always gets people saying that means it is going to move. Edit: And considering the troubles they had with the community and alderman at the previous location, I don’t see why they would want to chance it and change their location unless they were planning to greatly expand or something.
Actually, it is a little weird that the evetbrite tickets page for 2021 says Douglass Park, Chicago,IL but for 2022 it says Windy City, Chicago, IL. I take back my rant because who knows. Sorry. Edit: I think I am just triggered by that topic because Reddit is constantly trying to have it moved out to the burbs! Ha!
Yeah I think the early bird tickets have always just said “Chicago, IL” without the park listed My thought is because they don’t have the permits locked yet, so they don’t advertise it until then
Here’s a playlist I made for all of you Apple Music people! I was originally going to try and keep it to deep cuts instead of the most popular songs but I’m not familiar with enough of the bands to do that so I just played it safe. Enjoy!
as for who we get added next week, the 3 i want the most on the 'bigger' side and that could be in play are: - Every Time I Die (wondering if their delay could be due to their Guitarist Andy who is now a full time wrestler for AEW so maybe them scheduling gigs could become more complicated) - Joan Jett (now that that tour is postponed maybe she, as the opener of the tour is free to book a few gigs until that thing gets going) - The Interrupters (pretty much hoping for the exact same reasoning as joan above IF hella mega is getting delayed again) I also want joan and interrupters because the top half of this lineup is severely lacking in female talent
I was curious by your comment on the lack of female talent and made this showing bands with only 1 female member (dont know if someone already did it, as I miss a few pages of this forum) Maybe Im missing some, but I counted 20 out of 67, or 29.8%
nice work, and just like i thought, its allll at the bottom, cuz even with pixies, she only does backing vocals, no lead singer til k.flay. im not blaming or accusing riot of anything, im sure booking was intensely complicated, just saying i hope for more in the final final wave
But I like Douglass :( If they move, I'll definitely miss that walk to the pink line with all the churches and random people serving up delicious smelling food.
NOFX has a female member now too, in Karina Denike. She sings and plays keyboards. Both live and on the album. But, TBH, I’m with you all in wishing there was more representation higher up on the poster.
MCR's website/tour dates has 2022 listed as Riot Fest 2022 Douglas Park Cultural & Community Center Chicago, IL, US
Its a typical great lineup for riotfest. Haha I mean it's 100% the best festival lineup for my taste of music, bar none. Like not even close But ... For me to make an effort to go all the way to Chicago and spend up to $1000. It has to be beat me over the head amazing. In 2014 you had original lineup blink and the fucking replacements! Plus an undercard to die for. That was worth the $1000. But in the first 3 lines, the only bands that get me excited is smashing pumpkins. For me a good festival has to have meat and potatoes. You need those 1 of 2 acts that make you say HOLY SHIT and then you need enough of those potatoes to make the weekend full and fun. I think the festival has plenty of potatoes. Nofx, motion city soundtrack, gogol bordello, New found glory, Anti-Flag, mighty mighty bosstones, Bayside, Thursday, saves the day, the sounds, best coast, pup. Thats a lot of fun. Just i don't see enough woah additions. They need to go more bamboozle style and think outside the box more. Bamboozle had kesha. Weird al Yankovic. Third eye blind. Keep it rock/punk centric but sprinkle in some uniqueness
Also as we all know. We can list off all the bands we're excited to see and know you're not gonna see them all due to conflicts. Thats why you need those jaw dropper additions.
I’m gonna be so honest- every time I look at the lineup I get less excited for riot fest. There’s very few bands I would pay specifically to see, and I’ve seen all of those bands before. Also one of the bands that was highest on my list (HB) is dropping off the lineup. I am gonna go no matter what- it’s been too long since I’ve been to a show and I’m hoping the Thursday party is really special. But I kinda need them to have saved the best for last with the 3rd wave next week.
I feel like it’s hard to convince yourself to travel to this if the bands playing are coming to a local venue near you - it defeats the purpose of spending the money on this festival/travel/lodging. It’s easier when you live in the area but for out of towners I understand. That’s why people want more exclusive bands and bands that don’t tour often.
I personally am excited, since there are numerous bands I haven’t seen before and have been wanting to see for years (reunion Smashing Pumpkins, FNM, Devo, to name a few) on the lineup, so I’m kind of in a different boat as everyone here. Not to mention I’ve never been to Riot before I understand where everyone is coming from though. Having a lineup of repeats and not many “rare” bands can be kind of a deal-breaker
