For someone who's never been to a festival. Would right now be the best and cheapest time to grab Tix for next year? Also what's a decent hotel to stay near the park?
It's definitely lacking the punk punch right now hopefully we get a couple more staples next week. I didn't think of putting the ska bands together with them but that definitely makes sense. Just Friends > Hepcat > Fishbone > Bosstones > Dirty Heads > Sublime being a stage for a day works out Definitely weird that MGK got announced for LTL and not this but that will def come next week as well
Same! I'm kind of hoping for a few more adds on the lower end. I'm thinking along the lines of the Flatliners, Masked Intruder, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, the Bombops, the Dirty Nil, A Wilhelm Scream, No Trigger... Maybe even somebody like Grumpster or American Television on the smaller tip. I'm a little shocked we didn't see any Fat or Red Scare bands added. Especially with NOFX and the Lawrence Arms being on the bill. I'm also a little shocked to see that we didn't see Spanish Love Songs in this update... Maybe next week, I guess? I think that line-up is entirely possible, but I'd think Fishbone would be before Hepcat. And there's definitely an off-chance that the Bosstones wind up on the same stage/day as NOFX. But there's also a chance the Bosstones are on the same day/stage as NOFX. Probably not though because... Radkey > Anti-Flag > Pup > The Lawrence Arms > The Circle Jerks > NOFX would make all the sense in the world.
Honestly, the more I look at this line-up the more impressed with it I am. As a whole it feels underwhelming, I guess. But if there were a show/festival announced that was just the 10 bands I'm most excited about seeing? I'd probably fly out to it anyway. Especially since it's been over a year since I've seen any live music and several of them are easily in my top 10 favorites of all-time. With at least one being in my top three. EDIT: And exploring the undercard a bit more? Seratones, Melkbelly, and Hospital Bracelet are also fantastic! I'd add Just Friends to the list, but they already blew me away with their live show last time I attended Riot in 2018.
If you're for sure going next year, no reason not buy now - tickets aren't going to get any cheaper. There aren't really any hotels near the park, but if you can stay somewhere walkable to a Pink Line stop then you're in good shape to use public transit.
with everything selling out, i hope i can still do my gameplan from last fest that i loved and hoping to repeat: buy 3 day GA (done), wait for the daily line ups to come out, figure out which day is the most loaded up for my tatses, then upgrade that 1 day to deluxe so i can stage hop much easier (as well as that being my drunk day, while the other 2 be my stoned days, haha)
By the way if anyone ends up wanting to get a refund for their 3 day pass, they're also allowing transfers. With the fest being sold out, it probably makes more sense to resell independently.
That's a pretty smart way to do the weekend! I'll be real curious to see how the days breakdown in terms of the sub-headliners. There's a bunch that feel like they would be perfect alongside NIN (Pixies, Devo, Faith No More, and Mr. Bungle would all work in that regard). I like that we're getting the daily line-ups early this year.
Is this the first time Smashing Pumpkins have headlined a Chicago festival in a long time? Ever? In past years how much have single day tickets been?
I'm so burnt out on speculation, hah. It could be literally anything as far as artists are concerned.
Big news, eh?... My guess is either A. Another big headliner along with MCR B. They’re branching out and returning to Denver, and/or a different big city
The selling out post was posted across all their social media sites. I wonder if that means 3 day passes that where refunded will be sold as single day tickets starting next week
That would be really fun, but part of me is feeling like they would wait until 2021 is over to see how it goes and decide after that... Adding another city would be cool, but it feels like very odd timing to do that. (I’m not sure where the $$$ to start that up would come from.) Another headliner? Maybe. It feels way too soon for that, though.
Except people have until May 31 to request a refund. So I have no idea how all that is going to work. I was anticipating them processing them all in May and then releasing a bunch in like, June.
Yeah but why would they say they are sold out. Usually that means they have zero plans to release anymore even after refunds. Why not come out and say more will be released after refunds right away?
Also I don’t think they will go back to adding more cities. Apparently last time it became too much for them and it was too hard and they lost money if I recall
I'm still on the fence, to be honest. I like a lot of bands on the lineup, but the more I think about it, I'm not sure if I have anyone to go with/a place to stay/want to fuck around with getting an Uber after the fest is done, which is easily my least favorite part of the whole weekend. If I do go, my main priorities are Run the Jewels, Devo, NOFX, Motion City Soundtrack, PUP, and Fucked Up, but I'd also watch Smashing Pumpkins, Taking Back Sunday, Simple Plan, Circa Survive, State Champs, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, K.Flay, Bayside, Mayday Parade, Andrew WK, GWAR, Fever 333, Ratboys, Meet Me @ the Altar, and Just Friends. Trying to be realistic as possible, with so many possible conflicts.
I predict they will just turn refunded 3 day passes into single day tickets. More cash for them that way.
I know we won’t know the schedule for a while now, but Trey Spruance from Mr. Bungle posted that Mr. Bungle is playing right before Devo. So looks like they’re playing the same day
Ok, so now I’m going to speculate that Devo is closing a stage while RTJ are headlining. No real basis but it makes sense to me for some reason.
