Very surprised they didn't pull in some more of the 2010-era pop punk bands for reunion/anniversary sets (The Wonder Years, Four Year Strong, Man Overboard, Transit, Fireworks, etc)
I'm assuming Trent has something up his sleeve for this year that we'll find out about soon enough. But yeah, this festival repeats their bookings way too often. How many times have we had Blink on the line-up since the first outdoor iteration?
I wonder if Everclear, Hoobastank, and/or Wheatus will be on RF. Living Colour and those bands are all doing Summerfest together this summer.
This is a strong, albeit fairly top-heavy line-up. The part that makes it "underwhelming" for me is that there's a lot of repeats and the undercard doesn't have a whole lot of "special" on it. Like, I like NIN, Dinosaur Jr., and Faith No More just fine but they aren't "must sees" for me, at this point. I am pretty excited about having the Lawrence Arms, NOFX, Motion City Soundtrack, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones on the bill! Those are all adds that were pretty high up on my list of wants. And it's dope that I'll finally get to see Devo! I guess I was just hoping for a few bands on the lower side of the poster that would get me really, really excited. I'm still planning on keeping my ticket because it'll be a blast, regardless... But I was hoping for a bit more "shock" when I looked at this.
It’s not THAT hard to get new acts each year. Well, maybe in a pandemic year sure but normally I wish they would change it up more.
Blinks only played twice, once with each line up. It just feels like more cus they were announced for 2018 but postponed to 2019
I’m thinking it was just slim pickens this year due to the pandemic, but there’s nothing on here that’s a real surprise like previous years.
anyone go through and figure out if there were more dropoffs or is the post mcr/aar line up still intact?
Problem is international acts, which while RF doesn't book many they do book some. Festival lineups this year are going to be very US-centric in terms of acts. Not all are willing to make that tough decision.
There's a few bands people were shocked were missing. I'm more stunned that Frank Turner isn't on this because he'll be in the country anyway and isn't doing anything that weekend... But who knows? Maybe next week.
So were they finalizing some bands and just put this out to meet the first half of May date? Because I don’t see the point of waiting a week to announce other bands otherwise.
There are 13 bands on this lineup that I actually want to see, only 3 of them are bands I haven't never seen before. I wish they would offer refunds after they release the daily lineups so I'll know if I can get a refund and then just get 1 or 2 day pass.
Personally wish the undercard was a bit better. While acts like Pup, Beach Bunny, Ratboys, Melkbelly, Best Coast, Meet Me @ The Altar and others are great, I dunno, I guess I was just anticipating more.
I mean, there's honestly some pretty heavy duty gets for certain demographics in here: Devo and Mr. Bungle are extremely rare festival sets. The Ghost Inside is a good snag. This will be Motion City's only show this year, I think... It's not the usual "holy shit!" factor. But it's not as drab as people are making it sound. Not that I noticed. I'm legit surprised to see Fishbone on here still.
More bands are coming next week. Angels & Airwaves is making announcements next week. Their drummer, Ilan Rubin, also plays with NIN and will already be there. Maybe AVA?
