They are a side project that released one album in 2001 and has done nothing since. Sure, the members are notable on their own but the band itself isn't a household name, which is what headliners usually are. Typically if a side project is headlining, a la The Raconteurs (who didn't "headline" but were one of the top names), at least one of the members should be big enough to headline on their own (thus anything they are a part of automatically justifying their status). Jack White is such a person. At least that is how I see it.
Where did this Boxcar Racer rumor come from.. I read an article they may be including an unreleased track on the reissue, but I have no idea how to jump to conclusions that any shows will happen
Even I hadn’t given much thought to Box Car Racer and I liked them and am a huge fan of that era (and earlier) of Blink. I feel like a lot of people probably don’t remember them that much and I don’t think they had a lasting impact like Riot Fest’s headlining reunions did.
Also, for what it's worth, pre-pandemic Angels & Airwaves was playing Lollapalooza according to an ~insider~ so that may still be a thing.
delxue and ultimate are still up as of like 5 min ago when i looked. but yea its coming soon prolly tomorrow or thursday
yeah i dont buy the lack of venue we have plenty of places they could of played. i take that as riot fest picked them up when they postponed the first time
Best Coast is live on Twitch right now performing with a Q&A to come, I should ask in the chat when the lineup is dropping maybe they will spill the tea
Ya'll are out of your minds, Box Car Racer would ABSOLUTELY headline if they were gonna play (i dont believe that rumor at all though). Don't forget, Jawbreaker was the headliner in 2017. BCR was 100x more popular than them and their reunion is just as much in demand.
But my point about the impact is that Jawbreaker stayed in more people’s thoughts a lot more than Box Car Racer has. There sure isn’t a band named Box Car Racer Reunion!
Lol at BCR being 100x more popular than Jawbreaker. People had been clamoring for Jawbreaker to reunite for years and the band is a cult favorite in the punk/emo scene. That was a long time coming. I don’t see the people wanting BCR to reunite in the same way.
I don’t think the draw is necessarily Boxcar and their music, it’s seeing Tom and Travis together on stage again.
I still don’t think that’s headliner worthy and speaks more to people wanting Tom back in Blink 182 than how much people would actually care about a BCR reunion.
Also the amount of people who care about seeing Tom and Travis together on stage is likely less than you think. It may be a big deal on this forum and in the Blink fandom but casual fans honestly likely do not care.
If The Raconteurs and The Voidz (both side projects with members bigger than Tom/Travis combined) couldn’t outright headline this thing no way Box Car Racer ever does.
Your average "pop-punk" fan out in the real world isn't going to be hyped about a Boxcar Racer reunion. People who are Blink-182 super fans might be, but even then it's the portion of that base that are obsessed with Tom... Boxcar Racer's legacy is pretty small. They had little to no impact on the scene at large in terms of influence and, if we're being honest about it... Their influence is the only reason why a band like Jawbreaker could close out a day of Riot Fest, why At the Drive-In and Refused got main stage slots at Coachella, etc. It's more about ticking a box for the promoter. Something to say "Hey, look what we did!" and getting a bunch of press, rather than it be a huge driver of ticket sales (although that's definitely a factor--particularly if its the artists first show back).
