Never mind, I am getting all messed up. For some reason I thought I remembered it looking like they were going to play but then Chris Cornell died. I obviously got my years mixed up. Or maybe it was a different band that I was thinking of and getting mixed up. Or maybe I just completely made that up in my mind. So scratch what I had said. I’m not sure why Flaming Lips headlined that year but not others. Sorry about my confusion.
Well since we didn’t hear anything today, I am going to assume there is an announcement of the announcement tomorrow and then the lineup will be announced on Wednesday.
I mean, he's billed on the second line at Louder Than Life. Which is a much better indicator as to where he'll fall on Riot, I think. He won't be any lower, might be higher... Where he lands on the bill will depend on when they locked him in. If it was truly a "last-minute" booking within the last 1-3 months? He'll probably be top three. If not? He'll probably be on that second line somewhere. At this point in 2021, he's definitely worthy of the headliner slot. But I think they would have had to have a number of groups say "no" before they got to him. And he won't be headliner status for this festival in 2022 or any year after, I don't think. But in this moment? It could work. (Might ding Riot's rep a bit with their core base but they could explain it away by leaning on the MCR postponement.) EDIT: And I'm pretty sure we'll find out who signed on and when as far as the headliners go, when at some point between now and September an interview comes out where they breakdown what it was like booking the festival for 2020, postponing, and booking for 2021 and 2022 in the midsts of a pandemic, MCR postponing and needing to rush to find a replacement, etc. Fingers crossed! I could stand with a surprise drop at 11am EST tomorrow, TBH.
So, out of boredom, I went ahead and looked up the dates/times of each announcement on Twitter. No real discernible pattern as far as time of day goes. And I'm really not sure whether to expect a teaser video or not, hah... But teasers tend to bring the hype looking at the responses to those tweets. So this would be a good year to do one! 2013: Wednesday, May 15th @ 10pm CDT - Announcement of announcement Thursday, May 16th @ 10pm CDT - Line-up announcement 2014: Monday, May 12th @ 8pm CDT - Announcement of announcement Tuesday, May 13th @ 7:36pm CDT - Line-up announcement 2015: Tuesday, May 26th @ 1:45pm CDT - Announcement of announcement Wednesday, May 27th @ 8:05pm CDT - Line-up announcement 2016: Wednesday, May 11th - Misfits teaser video Thursday, May 12th - Misfits announcement Tuesday, May 17th @ 10am CDT - Announcement of announcement Wednesday, May 18th @ 8:48am CDT - Line-up announcement 2017: Monday, April 17th @ 12:08pm CDT - Teaser video Tuesday, April 19th @ 12pm CDT - Line-up announcement 2018: Thursday, May 24th @ 8am CDT - "The fun begins on May 30th" announcement of announcement Wednesday, May 30th @ 8am CDT - Teaser video Wednesday, May 30th @ 5:45pm CDT - 2nd teaser video Wednesday, May 30th @ 8pm CDT - Line-up announcement 2019: Tuesday, May 28th @ 3:08pm CDT - Announcement of announcement Wednesday, May 29th @ 10am CDT - Line-up announcement
for the love of Yeezus, please just put out the lineup today or tomorrow.. reddit is getting more ridiculous by the day
At least no one on the Riot Fest subreddit is theorizing that the festival is going to be pushed back a week because of some random bar crawl like someone in the Lollapaooza subreddit did though.
Yes! Of course not...that'd be ridiculous... *slides bar crawl conspiracy index cards back into pocket*
Hah! Once I figured out how to search the tweets, it took all of 15 minutes and it was a good distraction from work. It's interesting. I think the first few years it was sort of like, the "wild west" of announcements. Then in 2016 and 2017 when they had the "surprise" headliners locked in (Misfits, Jawbreaker) they announced fairly early in the day and did plenty of teasing ahead of time. All of the other times it was announced at night! It feels like they might make the decision based on when everything is locked in and they get the green light to announce. They seem to want at least 24 hours to build hype. I hope we get an announcement with a teaser video and line-up drop the same day. Real curious to see what they do with a teaser video given social distancing and such this year.
I really hope we get some kind of teaser video or hints and not just a plain announcement of the time the lineup will come out. They need to give us something to over analyze and keep us busy!
Really, I just want them to tweet so my stupid face and "knowing the response I'll get" question go away from the feed. Looking at the responses and seeing people respond as if they think I thought asking that might actually get them to release the line-up is making me feel super anxious. Haha.
Almost time for my zoom this morning, so I am sure they will make an announcement right when it starts at 10. Hopefully I come back here to a bunch of hype. Edit: Done and still no news. Booo!
Have they stopped selling GA tickets before the announcement in previous years? Right now Eventbrite say they are sold out with more passes coming soon
total conjecture but maybe they halted sales for a minute while they gear up for the flood of refunds and trade in for 22's they are about to be hit with
I think so, they normally have different tiers of price. There will be more tickets this year any way as they are offering refunds based on MCR cancelling/international travel restrictions.
Looks like we'll be waiting a bit for an announcement. But they tweeted out that 100% of Riot Fest merch profits would be going to benefit KAN-WIN today, "an Asian-led non-profit organization that focuses on gender-based violence within Asian American communities." Pretty cool to see and I'll be picking up some merch today!
I looked at the site the other day because somebody had mentioned they thought the prices jumped up. And if I recall correctly, the GA tickets were still on-sale but it was a quick check so I could be mistaken... Interesting that the VIP tickets are all still on-sale, though. But I guess that's a very small percentage of overall tickets compared to GA.
Yeah, I checked a few weeks ago because a friends asked me how much tickets were and they were still on sale. I think VIP tickets doesnt go up on prices. I have a vague memory that one year they stop the GA sale before the announcement and when they were up again after the announcement it was with a price increase. So maybe it's coming?
I mean, yeah, I think that's an indicator that it'll be coming soon. Assuming they are still sticking with that "first half of May" timeframe... It's gotta be tomorrow or Thursday.
so far its just a rescheduled 1-off, but i would LOVE for riot to pick up these guys up for an album play!
Oh yeah, would love this. Might not be a good fit for RF but if it comes close to Chicago, I'll check it out for sure.
