Yeah. The silence on social media today is probably an indicator that something is coming. I'm really missing the ol' "Oh, the line-up page is down!" bit that usually signifies something is coming within the next 18 hours. Hah.
The Riot Fest Twitter admin saw its shadow. That means we have at least 16 more hours without an update.
I have zooms at 10 am tomorrow and 11:30 am on Wednesday so we will probably get news at one of those two times.
some already announced crossover (TBS, keenyhoopla) and the inevitable MGK, but other than that, probably not much, maybe a band or 2
Turnstile would be sick. I still can't quite figure out who Cage the Elephant is really for at this point. I'm perpetually surprised at how high up they are on these posters.
i feel like that list of indie darlings on this lineup fit well with cage the elephant - glass animals, band of horses, big wild, mt joy, lovelytheband, etc.. and i have no idea why, but that song by Judah the lion grinds my gears every time i hear it. please not them, lol
I just saw Mt. Joy and Michigander (both on Firefly) play a distanced show on Friday and it was a lot of fun.
it’s possible he isn’t because different festivals “value” (for lack of a better term) artists differently. I could see it being in his contract that he has to be a sub headliner or close his own stage, though.
Yeah, I still don’t buy that Riot Fest would go after him as a headliner, especially when he is playing so many other festivals. It is entirely possible that we will have a Jawbreaker / Paramore situation where some people convince themselves that the headliner isn’t going to actually be the headliner because they think the other band is bigger.
Talking in circles when it's very likely he'll be a headliner. His popularity here is being undervalued.
I wasn't there in 2019 so I don't know when they played but if The Flaming Lips are headliner material (they are playing a 2,500 cap venue in Chicago on their next tour) then surely MGK who fills up bigger venues is headliner material. Obviously The Flaming Lips have the longevity/nostalgia factor, but still.
I’m still convinced that they were a replacement for Soundgarden when they headlined in 2016. (Edit: Nevermind, I have no clue what I was thinking of; now I’m as bad as the people on Reddit!) Edit: They didn’t headline in 2019 or 2014. It is similar to RTJ headlining in 2018 but not in 2021.
I know they were trying to get the permits to use Union Park a week before Riot, but they have been dead silent. The last post in their social media is from September 2020
All signs point to it being a go based on tour routing. Waxahatchee and Faye Webster have tours in September that skip Chicago but are in the area that weekend, and both were supposed to be on the 2020 lineup. Permits haven't been approved for any July/August/September festivals so maybe they are waiting on that.
