Where's the info about the original Misfits come from, because last I heard they had finished all of their contract obligations and were done
I've always said that if one of those festivals were within a 30-60 minute drive from me, I'd probably go for the people watching... And to see the 3-4 bands per day that interest me (and the 1-3 artists I'm kind of interested in seeing a set from and wouldn't bother to see them play if I weren't there already). I honestly think, at this point, the Black Keys are too "basic" for Riot Fest to even enquire about. I would imagine a few of the other acts would have had to say "no" for them to get down to putting an offer in on the Black Keys. Cage the Elephant is borderline in that regard, but could make sense as a sub-headliner.
They're headlining Aftershock. Got announced this afternoon. They are extremely unlikely to be playing Riot again. But it means they're down to perform more shows.
I mean Riot Fest has a pretty great relationship with The Misfits, and Danzig in particular. I wouldn’t at all be shocked if they went to them when they suddenly needed another headliner that they knew they could count on. And Nine Inch Nails has played more recently than the Misfits have.
Fair point! I guess I was just thinking it wouldn't have the same "oomph" impact with it being their second area show in a few years. The relationship would make the process easier. And you're right. 2016 would have been five years ago now. Maybe it wouldn't be too soon.
I knew I was forgetting one! I've edited to include them, but I'd put them just above the Offspring in terms of likelihood. They are a total Riot Fest band and I would imagine Riot at least tried to book them. Whereas, the Offspring are likely for Riot but they also might just be focusing on those "active rock" fests this year.
So now my headliner wishlist is Op Ivy, Misfits, and Smashing Pumpkins. So I am now hyped enough to be disappointed with the actual headliners!
Geez. And we finally got you pulled off the Green Day hype again... I'm not even entertaining the thought of Operation Ivy anymore unless a more obvious hint/leak drops or until we see the actual line-up. There's zero evidence out there to support it actually happening beyond tweets from a known shit-stirrer from Chicago. Haha. Gonna manage my expectations. I'm shooting for mediocrity with my expectations. Hah.
Yeah, I don’t actually think that it is going to happen. I think they may have asked Laura Jane Grace to lay off the jokes if it was actually happening and they wanted it to be a surprise. I just threw that on since I have no clue who I would realistically want for a third headliner and so my default is always Op Ivy!
I think one big 90's rappers or rap groups will get bundled into a sub-headliner spot... maybe Public Enemy or Mt. Westmore
I mean, she's in the industry. If she knew it was actually going to happen there's no way she would have said: "I know it's happening LOL. ;)" Tim liking it was probably just happenstance/boredom on his part. I'm with you, though. Most of the potential names being tossed around as potential top three additions aren't of particular interest to me. I don't dislike most of them... I'm just not big on them. Operation Ivy is my pie-in-the-sky.
I guess No Doubt can be added to the list of potential headliners, even though Gwen is gearing up to release a solo album. After some thinking, a one off wouldn't be too big of a deal in between a solo album campaign.
She told Variety in an article like a month ago she doesn't think they'll ever play again.. I mean, they could reunite in the future but I don't think she would lie, because by the time that article came out MCR's replacement was probably already booked Gwen Stefani Reflects on 25 Years of 'Don't Speak' - Variety
Public Enemy is a possibility. But I am incredibly doubtful that Riot Fest would pony up the cash for a supergroup there is zero hype/buzz about... Especially when Snoop is involved after the bullshit he pulled in 2015. Pretty sure they won't ever work with him again (and based on his response, Snoop wouldn't want to work with them again either). They could just book Ice Cube alone, save a bunch of $$$, and do better for the festival overall.
The other day Hayley posted a photo of herself with her vaxx bandaid and captioned it “get vaccinated so we can play paramore shows”. While Paramore is not as big as MCR it would be a good rare grab that can please a lot of that base. Plus she can still do a solo set.
I opted for MIA over Paramore in 2017, and while I justified it at the time given I was more much more likely to see Paramore in the future...i still haven't. So yeah i'd go whichever day Paramore was on for sure.
Why do I even check the subreddit? No one on there knows what they are talking about. Someone said this: “Punk Rock Bowling is the following weekend, so I'm cautious on any of the crossover bands. It's not impossible, but I'd imagine a lot of contracts would require that a headliner not headline another festival within the same 10 days.” Which if they would have bothered to look at both the PRB and Riot Fest lineups, they would have realized was already not the case. I think my head explodes every time I go on there.
