I mean, Riot Fest is a show. And they would be headlining it. Personally, I think this rules them out. Would also be a bit mucky for Riot Fest if they had to wait until tickets went on-sale for this to announce. Because that's May 14th. Good point about the MGK venue sizes. I do think he's big enough now that they could bump him up to a #3 headliner, though, and people wouldn't bat an eye in terms of him not being popular enough or whatever. But if that's the case, why not put RTJ in that #3 slot and him right behind it? While I do think there's a chance he's #3, I do definitely agree that it would be a bit of a mistake in the long-run. And your average Riot Fest attendee will want nothing to do with him... And if they booked an entire stage of Travis Barker-core acts surrounding him? Fuck, that would be a weak look that would not age well. Riot has done an impressive job of sticking with their same general line-up structure every year, deviating just enough to keep it interesting while staying true to their roots. I really hope they stick with that. Among all of the US festivals, Riot is easily the most unique. It would be a real bummer if they started to pander.
give him The Rise stage and add NFG, simple plan, best coast mayday parade and boston manor, and then i dont have to go to that stage all day, except for mayyyybe NFG if there arent conflicts (no offense to fans of any of these, just not my things)
I got beartooth tickets for the 22nd. Imma be dead after that show. 6 concerts in 8 days from the 15-22. Parkway drive the 15th then all 4 days of riot fest. Then 2 days of nothing then beartooth.
NIN has always made a clear distinction between headline shows and others. They consider a headline show one that is just them with another opening act. They've headlined festivals in the past and they don't consider that a headline show, its a festival show. NIN at Riot would be wilddddd. I would kill to see a Downward Spiral or The Fragile album show. Also, don't know if it matters but the ???s on the poster lineup with nineinchnails...
dunno to chalk this up to 'near confirmation' or just heresay, but i was told by someone who was watching a live stream where the singer from Ghost inside hinted at riot fest with a back and forth with a fan that went something like: Fan: I wish you guys were playing furnace fest, and not riot fest or something because im already going to Furnace. singer: well i think you should reconsider.
I don't think that Parkway show/tour is gonna happen, they got pulled off a festival in Orlando but the rest of their tour is still playing
That tour doesn’t start until September so hopefully by then everything will be fine and they will still be able to put the tour on
I still think it's possible they could perform festivals this year. "Headline show" seems like deliberate wording to me. They could have said "only shows of 2021" if these 2 were it.
Fair point, and as somebody else highlighted: NIN apparently distinguish pretty aggressively between festival shows and headline shows. Which makes sense given Trent's whole "thing." For me, this would be a really solid add in that I could watch them and love it, skip most of it for another artist I prefer more, or just watch a bit and then go home if I was feeling tired. They would be kind of a perfect headliner addition for me, TBH.
Couldn't agree more, they'd be an ideal headliner for me. Someone I'd never pay to see on their own but would absolutely spend at least some amount of time watching
NIN as the secret thursday headliner would be bonkers. they may be my 'hope' pick now though i think FOB/rise against still top my theory list
I feel like both NIN and Fall Out Boy are pie in the sky for Thursday night. I think Rise Against is the best we can hope for, and even then it would only be because they’re local and might do it for a slight discount.
Nine Inch Nails Setlist at Riot Fest Chicago 2017 set from 2017. I wasn't a massive fan of the show as there was so much lighting and smoke from the stage you couldn't see anything even from about halfway back.
have we considered they try running it back with Bauhaus reunion after 2019 fell through? they announced rescheduled dates in october for mexico and london.
Not to burst your bubble, but they would be way too expensive for a show Riot Fest is ostensibly not getting any money from putting on. I'm guessing it'll be a bunch of "favor" sets that are relatively cheap, but notable. This is why I keep leaning on Chicago acts who have a history with the festival, bands who have played regularly over the years (Andrew W.K., Taking Back Sunday), etc. There's also a chance they put one of the rare acts who don't usually play shows on Thursday night because they just want to do a "practice" set. But it probably won't be a big name act who costs $$$.
After that bullshit from 2018, I really hope they don't bother with them ever again. Especially not in the midsts of a pandemic with fluctuating travel restrictions.
They'd be better off trying to get Pavement, I know very minimal business law.. but I'm not sure how much that Primavera contract holds up in court with them postponing
Yea I remember Trent saying he wanted to completely strip down the live show for those tours and just a return to blinding white lights and smoke. That setlist is wild tho, as a massive fan there’s some really rare tracks that were played at that show. Similar to Pearl Jam, that’s the best part about a NIN show, knowing Trent doesn’t ever play the same set twice.
Well, looks like anybody who was fearing MGK as a top three can probably rest easy. They look to be billed beneath the Offspring at Aftershock. But then again, the positioning for some of those bands on that poster is really strange. Rancid over Volbeat and the Dropkick Murphys? Seether over Dropkick Murphys? Social D over Rise Against? My barometer for what's popular in that world might be a little skewed, but I wouldn't think it's that skewed...
One of my biggest "festival regrets" was not going to Riot in 2016 to see them. The other headliners sucked but the rest of the line-up was fantastic and included a bunch of artists I had been wanting to see at Riot for years (Deftones, the Specials, Jimmy Eat World, Big D and the Kids Table). The TL;DR version is that my ex-partner couldn't be bothered with festivals and insisted that other vacations were required earlier in the year. So. In 2017, I effectively sold off 90% of my CD collection and collapsed that relationship in order to see Jawbreaker. To this day, I have zero regrets in doing that. So yeah, I'd love it if the Misfits were the replacement! But I kinda doubt Riot would book them again.
So for potential additional headliners and second line acts/sub-headliners we have (in perceived order of likelihood based on available evidence): Nine Inch Nails Machine Gun Kelly Jane's Addiction Edit: Devo The Offspring 311 Rise Against The original Misfits Anybody else (excluding Hella Mega artists)?
thats the most punk ive seen one of these metal fests lean into: misfits, rancid, social d, dropkick, rise against, suicidal tendencies, antiflag, offspring, pennywise.. pretty stellar line up. id go for the curiosity factor of how the fan bases mesh, since politics has infected every corner of life in such extreme ways, a mass of antiflag fans intersecting with a mass of skillet fans would be... interesting, haha
i think black keys and cage the elephant can both be at considered possible just due to size and being in the area at another fest.
