Yeah and he’s coming from Massachusetts on the 17th which is a 15 hour drive

Yeah I was just going off of the fact that the album is a rock/glam rock album, she’s been into artists like Blondie and Joan Jett lately (Riot type acts), and is in the area (the main reason). Also, I was thinking that if Riot can book MGK off of one punk album then that would put Miley in play off of her rock album.

They could also play Riot on the 16.

Can we add Joan Jett to that list? She played Riot on 2013

Also, is 311 a band that would fit Riot?

Also I don’t think they will get him now, but I’m surprised Riot never got Chance the Rapper to play, especially a handful of years ago when he was a mid level act. Seems like he would have been the perfect “popular hometown rapper who isn’t too big” a la Vic Mensa.

Yeah, I get it! But I think the "move" on Miley's part is more borne out of pure love and wanting to do something different and whatever happens happens. I just don't think she's like, "I have a rock album; time to play a rock festival!" Whereas MGK is definitely taking that approach.

She kinda just does her own thing. And it wouldn't be just the one rock album, BTW, considering she did that whole tour with the Flaming Lips as her backing band a few years back!

TBH, I think she would be a perfect fit for Riot Fest at this point in her career (and, this is a bit of a sidestep, but I think Kesha would be too). I just don't think it'll happen.

Before that. I’m talking like 2012-2015 when he was a popular mid level act.

He was doing his own thing tho during a couple of those years. I know one year he had that fest at us cellular field. I refuse to call it what it’s named now

Plus it seems when it comes to hip hop/ rap they only book legacy acts.

with this year being an exception with lupe and Vic

They booked Post Malone in 2015, way before he was big

I think 311 fits. I would argue they would be in the Deftones/Incubus type act and receive a similar slot. Closing out the Roots stage just before the primary headliner or last of the day on Radicals/Rise.

This year, I think they would fit particularly nice sharing a stage with Sublime, Dirty Heads, K.Flay, Fever 333, Hepcat, and somebody else. I would say Fishbone but I think we've probably ruled them out as being on the festival proper.

I didn’t even know that and I went in 2015 but also I don’t listen to that genre of music

Yeah, they are pretty targeted with their hip-hop. They tend to load up a single stage with hip-hop on a single day, and then have 1-2 scattered throughout the rest of the weekend.

But it's more than just "legacy" acts. They've booked a few acts who are bigger now when they were coming up (Post Malone being the biggest, I think; Denzel Curry and Danny Brown both played in previous years, though).

Yeah I don’t listen to hip hop so I wouldn’t know that lol

Also while Op Ivy would be cool, I'm not as well versed in their music so... give me a Fugazi or Minor Threat reunion instead please

Unless they drastically shake things up this year, I think we'll get maybe an additional 2-3 hip-hop acts in the final wave. Maybe less.

New York is opening Broadway shows to 100% capacity September 14th. I wonder what this means for concerts in New York and the rest of the country. I know it will very state by state on metrics but still interesting to see how this plays out

Ian said Minor Threat is never playing a show again

Y'know, everybody keeps saying it's going to come on a Wednesday... But they had also said they were planning to announce the full line-up on Friday, April 16th initially.

So all the rules are out the window this year and the relative silence on social media the last few days is giving me hope that is probably unwarranted and we'll wind up with it next Wednesday, anyway.

I love/hate this time of year.

Not that he even needed to lol. Anyone who knows about Minor Threat knows that they’re done for good. I can name dead artists that will play a show again before they do.

Fugazi might play again, but probably not for an audience and definitely not at a festival.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Riot should troll some MFers and just get Coriky to play if they want to strut Ian McKaye out there.
