I just don't know how Green Day could play Life is Beautiful on Saturday and play Chicago on Friday or Sunday, because with a band like that it's not a matter of 'oh they could fly, use someone else's equipment' like say a Fishbone, their stage set up is probably on multiple 18 wheelers and like logistically unless they do a bare bones no bullshit set at Riot, it'd be a tough turnaround.. I'd be glad if I was wrong I'm convincing myself System of a Down is one of the other headliners if it's not Op Ivy (they sure have been dropping a lot of clues tho), and I guess devo/Run the Jewels could co-headline the Sunday like basically Bikini Kill & Raconteurs did in 2019
That's why I didn't put them as being even remotely possible. But I wasn't too stoked on my "best guess" picks so I tacked on some that feel like near impossible (but again, not a 0% chance). I love Jane's Addiction and would 100% watch them live, but I've seen them a bunch over the years. And MGK I just would prefer not to play at all, and certainly not as a top three. But that is far more likely than a lot of other guesses, IMHO. I think Green Day could do a low-key/bare bones festival set if they wanted to. But I really don't think it's going to happen.
IF Riot doesn't announce anything at all on Thursday and keeps the entire thing a mystery, then I could see a Foxboro Hot Tubs or the Network set... bc they've played really small clubs as both.. but I honestly have no idea what to expect on the Thursday.. definitely not Op Ivy
Are we thinking they could announce on a Thursday now? I thought they always announce stuff on Wednesdays
Pixies are playing summerfest on Saturday so they are on riot fest Friday or Sunday RTJ is playing summerfest on Friday is they are on riot sat or sun rise against is playing on the 4th for summer fest. Hopefully that doesn’t knock them out of playing whether it’s Thursday or one of the main days
Wild that Fishbone is listed as playing this on the 17th with SoCal Hoedown happening on the 18th. That means they're either going to drop off when the line-up comes out or be playing the 19th. ...Which would be a wild amount of travel back and forth. On a normal year, I think it might preclude them just because they would probably be on their merry way to play a show in another part of the country after that. But given that there's no proper "tour" planned for them at the moment? I think they might still be in the mix as any festival would be a "one-off." Looking at who all else is on the bill, I think this also might put 311 in the mix. Not quite as obviously as if they were playing the same weekend. But still. They'll be active and playing shows. And that would change up some of the working theories about Sublime with Rome playing the second stage. I think that would probably put them as direct support for 311 on one of the main stages.
This definitely puts the following in the conversation for Riot Fest, as they're playing 9/16-9/18. Fitz & the Tantrums Dirty Heads Liz Phair Bleachers The Struts Candlebox Dead Sara
Does this put Miley Cyrus in the mix as well or nah? Her latest album is pretty rock-ish. I’m guessing she’s too big though, but she’s in the area that weekend.
Dirty Heads were already announced boss Future Islands would be bad ass too plus some bands the second (and first) weekend of Summerfest are at Riot, so who knows..
Wouldn't mind adding Toad The Wet Sprocket in there for some 90's rock nostalgia. Local H would be killer too.
I mean it is possible that Fishbone plays early enough that they could play and then drive up to Milwaukee to play that night. I would be exhausted if I was them though.
I honestly don't see Riot Fest booking Fitz, Liz Phair, or Bleachers again. They have a strong tendency with some of the more "pop-leaning" acts for them to be a one and done (almost the opposite of festivals like Lolla and GovBall who will book the Menzingers once and then never again). Liz Phair is also on the Alanis tour at that point, so she definitely isn't doing Riot this year. I wouldn't think so. I mean, never say never but... As much as that new album is rock-leaning, it's not like she's made a hard pivot to really market herself or play shows with rock acts. And I doubt Riot Fest was actively pursuing her as a possibility. I like the new record pretty alright and think she'd make a pretty solid uppercard addition... But I don't see it happening. Good point! God, that would be aggressive though. For their sake, I really hope they don't do that. Haha.
Rise against does have a fall tour planned also they have something planned for Chicago there’s an interview with Lauren from 101 wkqx with this information right when the album was announced
Ah! Good liking out. Curious as to how they're defining "tour." Because they have dates lined up, but thus far they've all been festivals. Wonder if a bigger announcement is forthcoming, or if they're going to just stick with festivals. And Riot Fest would technically be something for Chicago. We'll see!
From Tim’s wording it sounds like a full blown tour but they are holding off announcing it until they know they can put it on
I’m surprised mgk decided to do the rave over summerfest unless he’s the tba for the 18th but I doubt that
Dude the entire tour is sold out outside of resale and platinum tickets the rave show sold out in 10 min too
yes, but one of the blurry dates that weekend looks like it could be Summerfest.. again unlikely, but possible
