Source? I know the European tour dates got postponed, but as of 5 days ago the story was that US dates are still happening this year

Initially I was thinking he may not be the third headliner. But looking at how well that tour has sold to date? It all kinda depends on when they booked him.

If they were lucky enough to have locked him in back in the winter, he might be last on his stage but not last for the evening. But if he was booked within the last couple months? He'll be one of the top three. Which will look really weird as time moves on. I don't see this level of popularity lasting very long for him, much less for the genres most closely associated with Riot. Fest.

Oh, come on. It's perfectly reasonable to expect that the keyboard player from the Talking Heads' funk side-project play Riot Fest. And it makes perfect financial sense for every indie buzz band touring the US in October/November to fly over to the states a month early to play a single date in Chicago ahead of their full US tour.

    All perfectly reasonable.

I would argue that Zombie's play in 2016 was mostly for the "album play." I don't see him returning, TBH. I'd be all for it, but I just don't see it happening.

Not gonna get my hopes up. But this is the sort of announcement that could reasonably delay RF's own announcement.

The wording of that article makes it seem like they're rolling it ALL over to 2022 instead of just canceling/rolling over individual shows. I can't imagine they would be able to all three of those bands to come back for some make up shows in 2022 if they did a bunch in 2021.

Also if we get Bartees Strange I hope we also get NNAMDI. A hip hop stage for artists who fit the punk ethos would be sick.

NNAMDI->Bartees->Vic Mensa->Lupe Fiasco would be a great stage. Adding Denzel Curry would be awesome. Not sure who else could play that stage off hand, but it would be sick.

Did you read the article linked? It’s being pushed to 2022 in Minneapolis and I doubt they are pushing select dates. This is a happen all at once or doesn’t happen tour.

That's pretty much what I assumed that stage was going to look like, except maybe with K.Flay on just before Vic Mensa and with RTJ being the headliner.

I'd be super stoked on what you put forward, though! Denzel Curry would be amazing.

...they aren't going to come all the way to the Midwest to play some shows but not play the other shows until next year. It costs a lot of money to get the bands/gear/personnel/etc. there and they won't do all that for regions multiple times. That's why I'm saying it's an all or nothing tour.

  8. I would really love to see Wheatus, at Riot Fest or anywhere.

...but that's not what is happening here. The Minneapolis date is getting moved to 2022, not cancelled.

instead of arguing why not just wait for a official announcement from the bands since as of 5 days ago the entire tour was still a go.

I mean, sure. I was just sharing what someone posted in the Hella Mega tour thread.

still no reason to argue and go back and forth just wait for a official announcement. maybe things changed over the last 5 days.

Exactly. Things can change in the matter of days.

I am waiting for an official announcement, that's why I didn't post

"Looks like Green Day/Fall Out Boy/Weezer are all back in play."

and I removed a lot of my posts to not clog the forum

Wheatus would be fun. Still holding out hope for Eve 6 as "meme band of the year," though. It's rare when that tag is placed on a band that I unironically adore.

Then again, if Riot held out until 2022 we might get a Horrorscope play.

I said "apparently" and based it off of the linked article and the fact that it's already ridiculously expensive for a tour like this to happen and even more difficult/expensive for it to happen in chunks/not all at once, as someone else also pointed out in the Hella Mega tour thread.

Anyways, best to just wait and see, but if Minneapolis is postponed it seems likely the rest of the US dates are as well.

I feel like this is gonna get flack but if we’re talking meme acts at riot fest, I *reallyreallyreallyreallyreally* hope they book Carly Rae Jepsen. I love punk shit as much as the next person here, but I feel like she’s be a nice thing to cool down to while having dinner after being in pits all day. Also I wanna see a pit to Call Me Maybe.

I don't think this discussion is worthwhile anymore but one date can absolutely affect the rest of the tour, especially in this case where the date is apparently being moved to 2022 and not outright cancelled.

I feel like she's surpassed "meme act" territory, to be honest. It's far from my wheelhouse, but I get the vibe that she's more just a straight-up respected pop artist now. I think it'd be like, just shy of what Riot might book though. Would definitely be a "chill" evening/dinner set too. Certainly better than Fear as far as something to eat dinner too. Hah.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

CRJ isn't a meme act, what a dismissive way to refer to her, jesus

Carly being booked as a "meme act" would be rude as heck. She's not that at all and still putting out very good music. I would very much welcome her being added though. She was fantastic when I saw her in 2019.

This festival definitely needs to book more women/non-binary musicians but if they do it under the guise of "meme act"...nah I'll pass.

  23. I'd be delighted to see CRJ, but she seems less likely than some other pop acts that they've booked in the past.

I think it's reductive to call any act that. Including ones who have quite literally made themselves a meme. But it's an easy way to categorize.

I just always assume that people don't mean any disrespect by it. Otherwise, I'd be losing my mind at every mention of Eve 6 in this thread for the last year.

  25. My friends (the same group I go to Riot Fest with) throw an annual Carly Rae Par Tae complete with inflatable swords so yeah we'd be unbelievably stoked if she was booked but I don't see it happening unfortunately.
