Happy Riot Fest Final Wave Announcement Is Coming Soon Season, everyone! Let the "Think today's gonna be the day?" speculation posts begin.
followed re: annoucements soon its still very surreal. I remember looking at this thread back in January thinking no way and yet here we are
Prediction: They're going to announce it this Wednesday with some mariachi versions of bands on the lineup (and the last song that plays will be Sound System)
I so wish this would happen. I just assume that it will be announced next week instead of this week though. I hope I’m wrong!
That seems to be the general consensus. I'm leaning more toward next Wednesday. But I'm also wondering if we might hear of some other major tour announcement from a headline-worthy act in the next week or so that will signal when it's coming. The update from Riot Fest a few weeks back seemed to indicate that everything was pretty much set in stone except for 1-2 things that needed firming up. So it might be that they announce ASAP after things are squared away, regardless of the day of the week (unless it's a Friday). I wish I weren't such a sucker for those videos. It's really fun to listen close and try to catch the clips... Mostly because the first time you catch it, you get amped and then second guess your ears and listen again to be sure it's the right one. And oh my god, if one of them were to actually be an OpIvy song...
I dipped out of this thread for a week for vacation and it seemed like all I missed was a MGK mini meltdown haha. I agree with where everyone landed though: I don't love it, but I don't have to watch. To be a real Pollyanna about it, I hope it gets a younger crowd in the doors and buoys ticket sales. With MCR moving to next year and the pandemic, I was worried about RF being in financial trouble (not that there has been really a ton of evidence they were in a really bad spot, but I'm a worrier) and if this is what they have to do to keep it afloat, so be it. It could be worse.
I think most people on here were pretty level-headed about it. Reddit on the other hand was throwing a fit. Which is funny because people on there are constantly wanting bands that would make even less sense for Riot Fest.
Zombie and Chevelle are the only two bands I could see playing Riot (and, well, that’s kinda because Zombie’s already played Riot)
I actually think that's really telling that Rob Zombie will be play Friday if Smashing Pumpkins plays that day too. Candlebox might fit in too. EDIT: Yeah, Zombie played Riot in 2016, so that would make perfect sense.
Saw someone post on reddit “how would you guys like this lineup?” And it was like “green day/ fall out boy/ Foo fighters/ Eminem/ limp bizkit/ Dolly Parton/ etc.” I swear some people on there will just word vomit every well-known act in the world and call it a lineup. No sir, that’s the sharpie writings on my middle school notebook.
I totally agree, there's an art to developing hypothetical lineups. I.E. having bands that actually make sense haha
And that art definitely doesn’t include having a #1 headliner at lollapalooza as the #4 artist at Riot Fest. edit: I feel like each Reddit made up line-up is somehow dumber than the last.
this got announced for a july tour so no basis for anything to do with Riot, but i give them props for this random but fun collection of bands,
Looks like Green Day/Fall Out Boy/Weezer are all back in play. The Hella Mega tour is postponed until 2022 apparently.
This reminded me of the Riot Fest thing for Valentines Day where you could win a date with Hoobastank. I would be surprised if they are not part of the line-up
@MattNCheeze on twitter if anyone wants to get weird and wild. would be cool to see some australian bands. Hockey Dad, Psycadelic Porn Crumpets, Spacey Jane, Skeggs
