Based on the update today, and some of the "re-opening" plans that have come out over the last few days, I'm feeling like it's very likely.

My initial thought that it would be cancelled is that it was an international tour (and was informed by the MCR tour cancelling). But I think the bands involved here are probably more "ready to go" than MCR would be. So doing one leg of the tour now and another later is easier for them.

So I'm hopeful too! I didn't get pit tickets, but I got really great seats and I'm stoked that it's feeling like it might be my first show back!

I mean, if Hepcat and the Pietasters were playing just down the street from me? I'd be there! There's a bunch of other cool acts on there. Catbite, in particular, is a band I can't get enough of. They put out an album in 2019 and it's been in regular rotation for me sense.

K.Flay has a tour date with Louis the Child on 9/17. So I would pencil her in for Saturday or Sunday. Probably Sunday, if I had to guess.

I saw the lineup for Download Festival 2022 and it reminded me that The Distillers havent played Riot since their reunion. Crossing my fingers for they to get announced in May

It seems like they're holding off on any touring until 2022. But there's a chance they might pop over to Chicago for a one-off.

I'd love for that to happen. Of all the bands I've been listening to for years, the Distillers are one of the few I've only managed to see once. And that was in 2019... The performance and sound kinda sucked at that one. Brody was coming off of being sick the day before so the guitars and bass were cranked way up to kinda drown out the vocals (that's what I assume anyway). Still a really great and fun show, but I was disappointed.

Would love to see them at Riot!

If the hold-up was other tour announcements (e.g., MGK) there's a chance it could be coming next week.

But I'm not holding my breath. My money is still on Wednesday, May 12th.

The Ghost Inside announced fo Blue Ridge fest, and they hype it as a rare show, which it is, but also say "This September, they return to the Mid-Atlantic for 1 Night Only" which makes me think they got super specific with the region because TGI may have more shows to announce, but i could be over-analyzing

Hard to say. That wording is just vague enough that it reads like the festival themselves isn't really sure what other plans the band might have (which might make sense, all things considered). Usually, festivals will include shit like "exclusive (region) performance" or "only performance in 2021" to indicate how exclusive or not it is.

The Ghost Inside doesn't really do much of anything except for a show here or there anyway though... So them being on a festival like that is a big deal for the festival, regardless, I think.

Them being on that a week before Riot certainly makes me think it's a possibility. Would be a solid addition to the "heavy" stage people keep talking about! Not my thing, but would certainly draw.

I’m feeling more and more optimistic that this might actually happen. I just read this:

“City officials also said Thursday that people who are fully vaccinated - 14 days after receiving their final vaccine dose - will not count toward capacity limits at private events like weddings. Officials said the city would consider expanding the exemption to other industries in the coming weeks if metrics continue to improve.”

Riot Fest aside, I've been feeling more and more positive about things the last few weeks. It's refreshing to see numbers changing for the positive (number of people vaccinated). And reading up on all the different plans that cities and states are implementing to re-open is giving me life. Really curious to see how it all actually plays out...

Here in MA, they are anticipating that everything will be able to jump to full capacity by August 1st. Which feels right if you follow the vaccination patterns.

Keeping those fingers crossed that we can all party in September!

NYC mayor just announced July 1 for us, which seems too soon to me but hopefully I'm wrong. First thing I did after being fully vaxxed was take a trip to Boston, & restrictions are still WAY stricter there vs NYC

Yeah, they've been keeping things pretty locked down. But I suspect things are going to open like a floodgate (for better or worse) once the summer hits and the vax numbers start nearing 50%.

I agree. I think we're nearing the max amount that'll be vaxxed - All the megasites in NJ are walk-in now, last night I was in Walmart & they made an announcement saying they had vaccines and you could just walk up. Fingers crossed things go well in the next few weeks/months, & those who are hesitant about the vaccine change their minds!

Had my second one this past Saturday, besides feeling a bit tired the day after everything was fine for me

That would be awesome! Gave a few tracks on the new record a spin last night and was super impressed... I loved 24 Hour Drive-Thru, but this feels like a big step up.

And they're another band that could wind up playing on any number of different stages. Side stage would be my pick, though, if I had to place them anywhere.

Origami Angel, Hospital Bracelet, Driveways, and Pinkshift are all bands I could see Riot Fest booking now while they’re relatively small and then looking like geniuses for it later. I honestly think once shows start coming back all of those bands are gonna get a lot of hype.

I was a little shocked that Origami Angel wasn't getting more hype over the last year or so. But yeah, I bet that ramps up after people start seeing them live. I have no idea what they're like in a live setting, whether they're good or bad but... Something about seeing a band like that (with lyrics like theirs) really drives it home for people.

Really hoping they wind up on Riot now, especially since I bet it'll be near impossible to get into wherever it is they wind up playing at Fest.

Smart booking then, if he winds up on the line-up. That'll sell really well and could make-up the "MCR gap" Riot would probably be seeing.

FWIW, on the latest episode of their Patreon podcast, Dylan from Spanish Love Songs strongly implied that they don't plan to do a lot of touring, but that they have some outdoor shows to announce in September as a way to warm up for Fest.

Obviously this could mean just a local show or whatever. But Riot Fest could also make a whole ton of sense too.

Nah I doubt he’s coming to the Midwest a month before his tour even starts when he’s hitting the Midwest multiple times on tour including right around when Riot is happening.

Are we certain Lolla is happening the same weekend as usual? Honest question.
