Yeah, that album doesn't call "album play" to me. A good rule of thumb for an "official" album play at Riot Fest is how iconic or important an album is to the band's discography. But whether or not it's an official album play doesn't really matter. There's a few examples of bands over the years doing a full album and having it not be listed as such (Bayside, Senses Fail, and Four Year Strong have all done it). So if they get added, they might play it anyway! But TBH, I don't know enough about that band, their popularity, etc. to gauge whether or not they'd even be on the bill!
Just noticed that J. Navarro and the Traitors are playing Supernova International Ska Festival in Virginia on Friday, 9/17. R.I.P. My dream of seeing the Suicide Machines at Riot Fest this year.
If I remember correctly FYS didnt played Rise Or Die trying in full. They were in the 10th anniversary tour for the album, but they did not played it at Riot. Im still sad about it
Same, but with very few exceptions I don't see many of them ever playing. Possible exceptions basically being the top six on the line-up. Maybe Catbite if they pick up a bit more buzz with their next release (or a band they're touring with gets added). Interestingly, Riot looks to have snagged Hepcat from them given the shift in dates. If I'm being real about the "ska" on the Riot Fest line-up at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fishbone drop off when the announcement comes in May. They're booked for that CA festival on the Saturday now and I really don't see them flying out to Chicago for a single set and then right back to CA. There's always a chance they get added on Thursday, but that feels like it would be even less worth their time.
I’m at work and can’t read into it too much so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the CDC just said fully vaccinated people can do outdoor concerts with masks but no social distancing requirements!
This reminded me when Idles played in Chicago the same weekend as Riot Fest 2018, Im surprised they werent on the bill but instead their own show
I might to punk rock bowling because its an actual opportunity to mosh and dance and have a normal concert experience.
I'm sure Riot Fest will provide the same opportunity? Real talk, though: If the final wave of Riot Fest doesn't add a substantial number of punk, hardcore, ska, etc. acts I'm probably going to try and convince my partner that we should get a refund on my passes and hotel and do PRB instead. The line-up as it stands is great, but I feel like PRB might be more my vibe. That line-up is stellar!
The full lineup will be announced the first half of May. The Riot Fest 2021 Final Wave Lineup is Almost Here
Would love Death Cab, but they feel more like a Lolla act. EDIT: Oh wow didnt realize they've played the fest before!
Primus tour got rescheduled again and Chicago date is two days after Riot ends. So count them out... Again...
Good. Frankly, as long as there's accessibility of vaccinations (which there is now) I don't see why they shouldn't be universally required for major events.
I completely fucking forgot there's an INTERNATIONAL ska music festival going on 15 minutes from me. Thanks for the reminder.
Fully agree with this take. The only exception would be folks who can't get the vaccine due to another medical condition (in which case: doctor's note stating as such). It's good that they're using it as a way to incentivize younger folks too. Really curious to see what the reaction is to this if it actually gets implemented. I've been saying for a while that if it ever became a requirement, a significant number of "anti-vax" people will suddenly get comfortable with getting one. Solid line-up too! If last year's line-up had gone down, I would have been there! Maybe in 2022...
According to Weezer’s FB, they are still aiming to do the US leg of hella mega this summer but have postponed the international leg, so the GD/FOB theories may be dead in the water
Yeah, the messaging is the same across the board. International dates postponed but the US dates are still all systems "go." Massachusetts is planning to have everything fully opened at 100% capacity starting August 1st. Obviously, that's subject to change if we see an uptick in cases, but those are currently dropping at a slow but steady rate. But yeah - I think those theories are dead. Although I don't even know that they were "theories" so much as just wishful thinking most people didn't actually think would happen. Hah.
Legitimately the only two bands on that lineup I've heard before are Hepcat and The Pietasters, but there are a couple others I'm familiar with by name. I'm tempted to go to it because the festival is in a really awesome spot at a decommissioned military fort where the main installation is legitimately surrounded by a moat. The brewery that's advertised as the spot it's at is in my second tier of faves in the area, but that's mostly because they specialize in sours which aren't my thing. I guess we'll see come September.
