I don't even know who would fit on a stage he is headlining. I guess artists like KennyHoopla and other rap rock artists?
going off of who is announced, yea, probably his tourmates, maybe the simple plan/nfg pop punk, and possibly K.flay? i hope not, but even fever 333 have the "travis plays drums for us" connection.
He’s either playing Riot or he’s playing Lolla and can’t announce his Chicago date until after the fest.
I mean, maybe he's not playing. But if we're willing to assume that band X is playing because of a Riot Fest-sized gap in their schedule? We have to apply the same logic here. No Chicago date and a gap that weekend usually means an artist is playing. He's in the midwest. And he's clearly making a move to play some rock-leaning festivals. I'm not sure why else they'd have those dates blurred if it wasn't a festival set TBA... And, given what the album is doing and what he wants to achieve with it? It would make perfect sense for him to be on the bill at Riot Fest. I just looked it up and the Rave is 98.6 miles away based on my GoogleMaps look. So technically out of radius. This would be my guess. Headlining the same stage as New Found Glory and Simple Plan. Maybe with K.Flay in the mix as well, earlier in the day. Looking at the mix of acts, I'm not sure where Fever 333 is gonna fall this year, TBH. Depending on if heavier acts get added (e.g., ETID) I could see them being early in the day on that stage. Or later in the day on the side stage, even.
slayer didnt play Milwaukee in 2019 on their final tour and riot was billed as the final Chicago/Milwaukee show so.... also senses fail didn't play Indy on their tour in 2019 and said it was because of riots radius clause
I doubt it's Lollapalooza. Announcing a show ~1 month ahead of schedule would be a risky move. I mean, it's not like Riot fest hasn't booked blatant pop acts before. Paramore, Young the Giant, Fitz and the Tantrums, Bleachers, Death Cab for Cutie, All Time Low, Snoop Dogg, and Fall Out Boy. I'm sure there's others, and we can debate about the "pedigree" or "history" or whatever of any of those artists that justifies their inclusion. But at the time they played Riot Fest, they appealed just as much to basic music fans as somebody who would normally attend Riot Fest. (And I'm not saying that to debase any of those acts; it's just reality.) And Machine Gun Kelly is definitely in that same category. Riot Fest tends to have a token "we booked this act to appeal to the youths" artist every year. It's usually not so glaringly obvious. But... It's always there. I really do not think he's going to be billed top three, though. Unless they had a really hard time finding somebody more appropriate.
I mean, yeah, but I don't think that really matters when you're booking a festival and trying to sell tickets. Riot Fest cares more than most festivals about aesthetic. But this booking is in that "close enough" category that I really can't fault them for. He was there, probably eager to play to this particularly audience and they wanted another act to fill things in. I'm not surprised that it's looking like he'll be there. It's just really jarring to see it look so obvious and actually come to fruition. And it's not really what I'd want to see... But. Whatever. It just means I'll go watch something else.
Yeah I don’t see what the big deal is. There are plenty of artists every year we don’t have interest in seeing and don’t watch them.
NOFX should really just shit on themselves at this point because that'll be better than listening to Fat Mike ramble on about anything in 2021.
Well, I do think there's an inherent difference between MGK and the other acts I listed. He's an industry plant pivoting styles to try and increase his overall popularity. And whoever marketed that record did an amazing job. Because it's working. And to your average music nerd (i.e., the kind of people who post here)? It can be frustrating to see something so obviously phony garnering the success that it's getting. And I have my own issues with that album, and MGK in general, beyond what I've said here... But your average person doesn't care. Like, not even in the slightest. And again, I think for Riot Fest, it's like just barely over the line enough that they can book him and feel like they aren't compromising any more than they usually would to sell tickets.
As much as I’m not interested in MGK for numerous reasons that have been outlined on this website, I’d probably just go home early the day he plays if there’s no other acts left I want to see. Or make my way to an aftershow early.
Yeah, I don't see the point of getting mad when a band you dont like its booked for a festival. Riot has other 4 stages, some carnival rides and food, there's a lot you can do while that band you don't like is playing
“Hey, the band up after us thinks that Dinosaurs are fiction. Jesus can eat my ass” ...I remember 2006 warped fondly lol
Seeing all the people on here that thought this was a good record was mind blowing. It was all such a calculated move for him...give it a couple years and I’m sure he’ll have a nu-metal record as well.
I don’t think MGK making a pop punk record was calculated, I saw this coming for a while. He clearly has been punk adjacent for a while.
I always saw him as kind of Fred Durst-adjacent, the cheese ball set he did on that FOB tour a couple years back was so painful. Him and G-Eazy have always had this cheese factor about them.
If MGK is playing then I could see artists like Mod Sun, Blackbear, Yungblud, etc. also being added on the same stage MGK plays.
